The PSA Group expands its borders with a new plant in Namibia
The PSA Group has reached an agreement that allows it to open a plant in Namibia. The Opel Crossland X and Peugeot 3008 will be the first African models.

Car companies are always in constant motion, with the aim of improving their technology, creating new models or, as is the case here, expanding their production. This idea had been circulating for months in the minds of the PSA Group’s executives, who have decided to increase their factories following the recent addition of the Opel to their ranks. With this premise, the French company has decided to set its sights on Namibia, a country where its models could be very well received.
These strategies benefit not only the companies themselves, but also the localities where they are established, thanks to the creation of more jobs and, at the same time, greater income for the company’s host region. However, the PSA Group has decided to allocate part of the production of only the Peugeot and Opel, leaving Citroën outside this agreement and excluding the manufacturing of its models at the facilities located in Spain and France, among others.
The main reason for naming only the Opel and Peugeot for the African plant is that both brands have a wide range of SUVs, a type of car better suited to tackling the off-road terrain this region can offer. Specifically, the Opel Grandland X and Peugeot 3008 will be the first to be built once the PSA Group’s facilities open their doors, but this is not the only good news.

The French group plans to gradually add other models from both brands, with the aim of meeting all the needs of its future customers. However, this is not PSA’s only goal, since the company intends to expand internationally, as it demonstrated with the opening of dealerships in the United States. In this way, its main plan is to ensure that 70% of the vehicles sold in both Africa and the Middle East bear the PSA Group’s badge.
“This investment in Namibia is part of Groupe PSA’s long-term strategy to increase its sales in Africa and the Middle East, in line with our goal of selling one million vehicles in 2025. This new capacity will serve regional markets with products in line with our customers’ expectations of Opel and Peugeot.” said Jean-Christophe Quemard, Executive Vice President for the Middle East and Africa at Groupe PSA.

Undoubtedly, this agreement will represent a major step forward for the French company, which will have the opportunity to demonstrate the worth of its products in other parts of the world. Gradually, more models will be produced at the Namibia plant, something that will also allow PSA to develop exclusive models for the African market, as other brands already do in other parts of the planet.
