Land Rover announces an update to the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models for 2014, including new technologies and a wider range of options for customers. The Range Rover Sport range will add an SDV8 diesel producing 339 CV, together with the first hybrid engines built by the brand. The Black Design Pack will also be available.

The new V8 diesel engine is a 4.4-litre unit with a revised intake system featuring two intercoolers; a new sump has been added, along with new aluminium engine mounts that save 10 kilograms, and the calibration has been optimised. With 340 CV and a huge torque figure of 700 Nm, this turbodiesel delivers excellent performance and uncompromised drivability in any condition, as there is more than enough torque on hand.

The SDV8 is paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. In terms of performance, the Range Rover Sport SDV8 fitted with the Dynamic Pack accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 225 km/h. The 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine producing 510 CV and the 3.0-litre TDV6 diesel producing 258 CV will also remain available, along with the 3.0-litre SDV6 diesel producing 292 CV, the latter offered only on the Range Rover Sport, as well as the recently presented hybrid powertrains.

The first hybrids built by Land Rover share identical technical specifications. The 3-litre SDV6 turbodiesel producing 292 CV is paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox, with a 35 kW electric motor replacing the usual torque converter. The system’s total output is 340 CV, with a class-leading peak torque of 700 Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in under seven seconds. The new models achieve CO2 emissions of 169 g/km and a combined-cycle consumption of 6.4 l/100 km.

As for the new Black Design Pack, it can be added to the Vogue and Autobiography trims and includes a wide range of gloss black finished parts, including the Range Rover bonnet and tailgate badge, the front grille, the exterior mirrors, the bumper air intakes, the side vents, the wheel nuts and the tailgate trim, as well as a new selection of 21- and 22-inch alloy wheels with a new finish. Inside, an optional electric adjustment for the upper section of the front seats has been added, while rear-seat passengers can benefit from optional larger 10.2-inch screens for the entertainment system.
