The Range Rover Evoque could get a smaller sibling

Land Rover is already thinking about a smaller version of the Evoque, according to the brand’s design director.

Land Rover is weathering the storm that 2012 has become quite well with the Evoque, if we look at the 90,000 units it has sold of one of the most handsome SUVs of recent years and one of the most successful models in the brand’s history. And when things are going well for a model, people start thinking about expansions and widening the range, which seems to be under consideration at Land Rover.

In the specific case of the Evoque, we wouldn’t be talking about “widening the range” with a larger model, but about bringing to market a smaller, lighter variant of the Evoque, perhaps at a more accessible price. According to what the brand’s design director has said, “something that is more sustainable, small and light, which is the right path.”

The segment of SUVs from good brands with good finishes will be quite crowded in the future. With the Evoque as the pioneer, and with the possible upcoming arrival of the Audi Q1, which could become a reality soon, it’s worth getting ahead of the curve.

For a segment in which Land Rover has never had a compact model, the mini-Evoque could be a masterstroke, securing a large share of the future buyers of this type of all-terrain vehicle… unless the Volvo XC-60 ends up getting a younger sibling.
