The Volvo V40 Cross Country appears before Paris

Volvo will present the rugged version of the 40 in Paris, the V40 Cross Country.

This time the Paris motor show falls a little short of last year’s Madrid show in terms of premieres, since we had the chance to see the V40 crossover up close. Now, the car that will make its official debut in the City of Light is the V40 Cross Country, the “tough” version of the V40.

The new features shown offer a redesign of both bumpers, with coloured aluminium inserts, plus side protection along the lower body. There is really little differentiation from the V40, were it not for the rugged capabilities it offers, the degree of protection against knocks, or the preparation with greater suspension height. But not everything that glitters is gold.

It seems this V40 will use all the engines that are already standard on the V40, except the smallest petrol engine, the 1.6 T3 turbo; and although it is not a unit that is particularly weak with 148 horsepower, Volvo has preferred to reserve for the V40 engines with more torque.

But there will be some further limitations; apparently the only engine in the range that can be paired with all-wheel drive is the five-cylinder 2.5, while the others will have to make do with front-wheel drive. Those who dreamed of driving a V40 out into the countryside will have to opt for this engine, the top of the model’s range, and spend a little more to indulge in owning this V40.
