The renewed Skoda Superb gets off-road with the Scout variant

Skoda has just unveiled the renewed Superb, a model that also introduces a Scout variant for more adventurous customers.

Many people claim that SUVs are the only vehicles capable of tackling unpaved terrain, but brands such as Skoda not only prove that saloons can do it too, but also their saloons. The new Superb Scout is proof of this: a model that has received a series of upgrades and carries this nameplate for the first time. Thanks to it, the Czech brand’s flagship reveals its more rugged side which, without giving up comfort or practicality, will allow its owners to face conditions where mud, dirt and rocks are the challenges to overcome.

This is how Skoda has sought to offer an option for those looking for a stylish vehicle for the whole family but without the need for the size of an SUV. The new Superb Scout fills this role perfectly, a vehicle that keeps its characteristic design, now more modern, and at the same time adds certain elements that reveal this is no ordinary Superb.

A fusion of saloon and 4×4

In terms of styling, Skoda has ensured its flagship saloon keeps the touches of exclusivity that make it so appealing but, on the other hand, the Scout nameplate also makes its presence felt in this area. With this premise, we find a standard Superb with a series of components that show the off-road character of this new variant.

The front is dominated by the fine lines found on all Superbs, but a higher ground clearance and an imposing bumper with chrome protection reveal the tougher character this takes on with the Scout trim. The same impression comes through on the side of the Czech saloon, where the 18-inch wheels steal the show, which can optionally grow to 19 inches and feature two-tone finishes.

It is at the rear where the 4×4 character of the Superb is most evident, where a large bumper, also chrome, aims to create that sense of robustness. But elegance and subtlety are also present on the Superb, two traits that can be seen in its slim rear lights or in the word Skoda sitting on the tailgate.

Two engines available for the Skoda Superb Scout

For now, the Czech brand will offer only two engines with the Scout trim, which promise performance more than sufficient to handle our off-road outings. The entry-level option is the 2.0 TDI, a turbocharged engine producing 190 CV and 400 Nm of torque. If we opt for its petrol counterpart, the 2.0 TSI, we will enjoy an engine capable of delivering 272 CV and 350 Nm of torque.

The market launch date and prices for the new Skoda Superb Scout remain a mystery, but we can expect it will be a matter of weeks before these questions are answered. In this way, the brand has managed to combine elegance, comfort and off-road capability in a single vehicle, three traits that make the Superb Scout a very attractive option.
