The rest of the Toyota Yaris range already receives the new 130H hybrid engine

Toyota is starting sales in Spain of the Toyota Yaris with the new 130H hybrid powertrain, available for the Premiere Edition and GR Sport trims

The Toyota Yaris may well be one of those vehicles that never ceases to surprise with how it has evolved over the years and, consequently, across its generations. What began as a simple little city car has followed the market trend and grown in size, but also in versions such as the versatile Yaris Cross, gaining appeal in design and gaining sportiness with the radical and spectacular GR Yaris.

The current generation of the Toyota Yaris was presented last autumn and now follows the line we saw almost a month ago with the Yaris Cross, with the addition of a new engine option. It will not be the cure-all, but it will serve to give us a Yaris that moves in a more lively way. The rest of the Yaris range will also benefit from the new 130H hybrid engine, which is reserved for the launch trim Premiere Edition and the GR Sport trim.

The new 130H engine benefits from the advantages of the fifth generation of Toyota’s hybrid technology, delivering, as its name indicates, a power output of 130 CV and a torque of 185 Nm. Compared with the 120H engine, this represents 12% more power, achieved through a new hybrid transaxle with a more powerful motor-generator, as well as adjustments to the software and hardware of the power control unit. This allows the Yaris to record figures such as a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 9.2 seconds, consumption of 3.9-4.3 l/100 km and very low emissions of 87-98 g/km under the WLTP cycle.

As I mentioned a little earlier, the 130H hybrid engine will only be available in two trims. The first is the Premiere Edition, which comes as standard with features such as a two-tone body finish combining Neptune Blue with a black roof (although in Spain it will also be available in Pearl White), a new design of 17-inch machined alloy wheels, contrasting stitching and inserts, a customisable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The second trim, the GR Sport, stands out for its sporty styling thanks to 18-inch wheels, Alcantara-upholstered sports front seats, contrasting stitching, sports pedals, a perforated leather steering wheel with an integrated start button, GR badges, and it also can be chosen in the exclusive Ascari Grey colour.

The new Toyota Yaris is also equipped with the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance and support systems, which include a pre-collision safety system, acceleration suppression, a proactive driving assist system, an emergency stop system, emergency steering assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure prevention assist, a pre-collision control linked to intermittent deceleration, lane departure warning, a lane keeping system and road sign recognition.

The new Toyota Yaris in GR Sport trim is available from 24,150 euros, while the Premiere Edition trim starts at 26,150 euros.
