ES90 Volvo Sedans Electric Cars
The S60 and S90 already have a fully electric successor: this is the new Volvo ES90, which is already available in Spain
The Volvo ES90 is now a reality, a premium saloon for long distances with the latest technology, and it is already available in Spain

Volvo has been releasing the first details over the last month ahead of a major presentation: that of ES90, its new fully electric saloon, which has finally been unveiled and put on sale immediately. Indeed, we can now take the first orders in Spain for this premium-focused saloon, designed for long journeys with zero emissions and total comfort.
The new Volvo ES90 is presented as a premium saloon, but as the brand itself says, it also carries traits of a fastback and can even remind us of an SUV. Either way, it has generous dimensions, with a total length of 5,000 mm on the nose, a wheelbase of 3,102 mm, a width of 2,120 mm and a total height of 1,549 mm. Despite these dimensions, the bodywork has been shaped to favour aerodynamic performance, achieving an excellent drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd.

In terms of design, the Volvo ES90 recalls the latest models presented, especially at the front with headlights shaped like Thor’s hammer, a signature of Volvo’s new brand image. They are perfectly aligned at their ends with the daytime running lights positioned vertically, and all of this sits beneath a front end with defined yet smooth lines. The rear is equally striking, with a light cluster featuring C-shaped LED lights complemented by vertical units positioned at the rear window area, which create an exclusive welcome and farewell light sequence. Volvo confirms that its bodywork can be specified in seven exterior colours and four wheel options, with sizes ranging from 20 to 22 inches.

If you have been following the EX90 road test we carried out just a few days ago, you may find its interior somewhat familiar compared with the new ES90. In fact, we could say it is largely identical, with the main differences found in the centre console and its lower section. Even the touchscreen of the infotainment system is exactly the same, at 14.5 inches, providing access to navigation, entertainment, climate control, the phone and many other functions. Meanwhile, for the instrument cluster, Volvo also fits a 9-inch screen.

The five occupants who can travel in the Volvo ES90 will benefit from the equipment included across the three available trim levels: Core, Plus and Ultra. Standard equipment includes items such as a glass panoramic roof, a high-end Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 speakers, rain sensor, Head-Up Display, 5G connectivity, black trim accents, wireless smartphone charging and Digital Key Plus, among many others. All of this is complemented by multiple safety and driver-assistance systems and a boot with power opening offering 424 litres, expandable to 733 litres with the rear seats folded, plus 22 litres of front boot storage.

Mechanically, for now, the Volvo ES90 is available in the Single Motor Extended Range version, which uses a motor on the rear axle producing 333 CV and 480 Nm of torque, linked to a 92 kWh battery of net capacity. This combination allows this Swedish electric saloon to achieve a range of 650 km on the WLTP combined cycle. Later, the Dual Motor version will join the range, raising power to 449 CV and 670 Nm of torque, as well as the sporty Performance version with 680 CV and 870 Nm of torque. These last two versions are homologated for a range of 700 km on the WLTP combined cycle.

As for the version currently available, Volvo confirms that its 92 kWh battery, thanks to 800 V technology, can accept peak DC charging power of 300 kW, which means it can go from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes. In the Dual Motor version, it will need 10 minutes to gain around 300 km of range, as it accepts charging power of up to 350 kW.
As we mentioned above, the Volvo ES90 is already available to order in its Single Motor Extended Range version on the Spanish market, with a starting price of 72,753 euros.
