The technology of the Lexus UX 300e, at the service of the driver and passengers
The new Lexus UX 300e features a series of details that make driving this electric car a pleasure, with elements designed for comfort.

A few weeks ago we discovered the Lexus UX 300E, an urban crossover from the Japanese premium brand that uses an electric traction system. With this model, Lexus enters the electric vehicle market. And in this model we will highlight not only the electric motor and batteries, but also reveal more about the technology that shapes it and what makes it more comfortable and efficient for the driver and passengers.
Aerodynamic technology
To improve electricity consumption during the journey, Lexus has worked on this model to reduce air resistance and create a smooth flow. To do so, they have fitted cooling shutters in the lower part that open or close depending on the needs of the electric motor. When no air is needed, they remain closed, and when air is needed to cool the battery and motor assembly, they open to let air flow through.

Other design elements that increase its aerodynamic efficiency are the rear lights, the wheel arches and the aero-ventilated alloy wheels. All of this improves its aerodynamic behaviour and enhances its performance.
Boot space
Many electric cars sacrifice boot space because of the battery pack. But in the Lexus UX 300E the space is sufficient to meet user expectations thanks to the battery’s location. The battery sits under the rear seats and the rest of the cabin, so rear occupants keep their space and comfort improves.
Heated rear seats
The rear seats are heated. This helps increase range, because it avoids using the air conditioning and gives rear occupants greater comfort while in the car.

Shashiko stitching on the upholstery
To stitch the upholstery a sewing system derived from a traditional Japanese stitching technique has been used. This gives the seats an image that is not only attractive but also very functional. The craftsmen at Lexus have created mathematical patterns aligned with the seat perforations and ventilation grilles, forming a carefully measured composition halfway between functionality and art.
The sound of the doors
The specialists at Lexus attend to the smallest detail, and the sound of the doors closing is part of those details. The brand’s craftsmen have tuned the doors to create a very distinctive sound that helps make the car more comfortable. To do so, they fit and adjust the doors in a chamber free of ambient noise before each unit leaves the factory.
Lights on the ventilation controls
Small details are present in the Lexus UX 300E, and one of them is a small LED light that helps locate the control at a glance. It also harmonises the cabin interior.
Automatic windscreen wipers
The windscreen wipers work automatically and stop automatically if one of the passengers opens a door. This is part of the omotenashi style, which represents Japanese hospitality. It does not make this a particularly revolutionary set of technologies, but it offers a series of differences that together improve comfort for passengers.
