The Toyota Proace Verso and Proace Van receive updates to their equipment and engine options

Toyota updates the Proace Verso with the arrival of a new 144 CV engine, while the Proace Van will get new equipment trim names

Large people carriers have been relegated to the background for some time due to the rise of SUVs, which can offer similar or very comparable capacity, at least when it comes to carrying passengers. However, MPVs remain the perfect ally for those who need comfortable and spacious transport, large families, or even those who want to dedicate them to leisure, opening the door to the wide world of campervan conversions.

Toyota is one of the few brands that still keeps a place in its lineup for its MPV, the Proace Verso, and it is clearly committed to it, as you could see just hours ago with the presentation of the new Proace Electric Van, which also comes with the distinction of being the brand’s first fully electric vehicle. Precisely taking advantage of the arrival of the electric version, Toyota has made small updates to the engines and equipment of the Proace Verso and Proace Van.

New 144 CV engine for the Proace Verso

The Toyota Proace Verso gets a new diesel engine consisting of a 2.0-litre engine producing 144 CV, which can be paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Unfortunately, Toyota has not revealed more specific figures for this engine. It joins the existing diesel options, which include a 1.5-litre unit producing 120 CV linked to the manual gearbox, and the 2.0-litre unit producing 180 CV combined with the automatic gearbox.

Regardless of the engine chosen, there are no changes to the configuration: it can still be selected in the body lengths Medium L1 (4.9 metres long and 3.2 metres between axles) and Long L2 (the rear overhang grows, increasing boot capacity), which can be chosen in the Family Advance, Family Advance Plus and VIP trims. These trims are joined by the Proace Verso Camper version, which features a range of Tinkervan accessories that let us enjoy the MPV out in nature.

New trim nomenclature for the Proace Van

The Toyota Proace is sold in three different variants and can also be the perfect partner for any professional, especially the Proace Van, with which we can transport practically any type of cargo. Toyota has more models in its lineup aimed at professional use and, to keep everything in line, the Proace Van changes its trim names to GX and VX, making it similar to the rest of the models.

The GX trim for the Toyota Proace Van is the entry-level option, while the VX increases its offering with quite interesting standard equipment, including items such as:

  • Fog lights.
  • Driver’s seat with lumbar support, height-adjustable, sliding and reclining.
  • Partition with window and protective grille.
  • Light and rain sensors.
  • Connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • Smart Cargo.
