The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR hits the track and aims to gain ground
Volkswagen has not entirely abandoned its involvement in the world of competition, as it has continued to sell the Golf GTI TCR with improvements for 2017

Volkswagen has withdrawn from the world of competition, but its Motorsport division continues to offer models that set the hearts of motoring enthusiasts racing. The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR has taken centre stage and will soon be available to customers who choose these models, featuring a new, re-tuned design that delivers improved performance on the track.
All the rules of the Touring Car Racing have been followed, so the model can offer all the performance needed to compete against its rivals. It is a modified version of the road-going model, slightly wider than it, which gives it some advantages over that car.

In terms of the engine, there is a 2.0-litre block delivering re-tuned power of 350 CV. The changes are visible across the bodywork, as an aerodynamic kit is designed to deliver strong performance on track, and the wheels have been replaced with racing units measuring 18 inches. Inside the cabin there are no luxuries of any kind. All elements that do not contribute to efficient driving on track have been removed, and the centre console is quite clear.
There are further changes compared with the road version, such as improved aerodynamics, which reduce air resistance and improve cooling. The sequential gearbox offers better behaviour, and the electric steering allows greater control under racing conditions, making it a car very well suited to the competitions it will face.

Volkswagen has sold twenty units of the Golf GTI TCR since its debut last season, although with this re-tuning it expects sales to rise by a further thirty units, at a price of 90,000 euros, excluding taxes, during this year.
