The Volkswagen Tiguan, more connected and safer

Connectivity is important in new models from all brands, and Volkswagen now presents the new Security & Service system, which, in addition to making an emergency call if necessary, can help the driver manage workshop visits and other useful tasks

The Volkswagen Tiguan debuts the brand’s new Security & Service service, which keeps the car connected to emergency systems so it is covered in the event of an accident, and allows other maintenance tasks to be handled via the website or the smartphone. This system will also be available on other models in the range, although the new Tiguan will be the first to feature it.

This is one of the pillars underpinning Volkswagen’s Car-Net system, which also includes Guide & Service, the online information system, and App-Connect, which enables the smartphone to connect with the car. This system improves management and control capabilities, which can be obtained optionally as Basic or Plus.

The Emergency Call is the main feature included in every version. It allows the car itself to place a call to the Volkswagen Emergency Centre, either automatically or manually. The message sends the geographic location, the direction of travel and the number of passengers, to make the work of the emergency services easier. A voice connection is also established so the operator can gather more information and stay with the driver until the emergency services arrive.

The Basic option allows data to be sent to the Volkswagen Data Centre, either periodically or on a one-off basis, to determine whether any intervention is required; it controls workshop appointment management and offers the driver advice on visiting the workshop if necessary, and automatic or manual fault notification if needed.

If the Plus version is chosen, the driver can also remotely control the doors and the boot lid; activate the hazard lights and check whether they are on; switch the heating on or off via the smartphone, as well as the anti-theft system; locate the vehicle using GPS; and check the status of the doors and lights, allowing the driver to see from the phone whether they are open or switched on.

If it is a hybrid or electric model, the Plus version features are complemented by battery management, with the option to schedule charging times to take advantage of periods when electricity tariffs are lowest, and to control the heating and air conditioning so the car is at the most suitable temperature when it is started.
