The Volkswagen Touareg R Plug-in is in the oven: it will arrive in two years

The Volkswagen Golf MK8 has already arrived, and although this long-awaited model is the one that has generated the most interest, it is not the only news that has stirred up fans of the German brand. In fact, coinciding with this presentation, it was also announced that the arrival of the Volkswagen Touareg R Plug-in is getting closer. This variant of the model will, in all likelihood, go on sale in 2021.

The information has been revealed by Autoexpress, which offers not official information, but a series of data that could shape this plug-in hybrid variant. The Hybrid Plug-in version is under development and, if all goes well, it would reach the market during 2021.

Among the information provided, which I remind you is not official, is the powertrain of this variant. It would be a hybrid engine consisting of a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, which, together with a considerably powerful electric motor, would deliver a total of 400 CV, and the all-electric range would be around 50 kilometres.

The main reference for this variant would be the Volkswagen Touareg plug-in hybrid sold in China. However, this model does not carry the R designation and, although it features a 2.0-litre engine, the total power of this variant is 368 CV.

The Volkswagen Touareg R Plug-in will be the first model in the R range to go on sale, but the brand assures that it will not be the last. Following this first Volkswagen R going on sale in 2021, other plug-in hybrid models in their R version are expected to arrive, with higher performance and sporty characteristics, so that fans of the German brand can find a car with good performance, a sporty soul and a lower environmental impact.
