EM90 Volvo Electric Cars Minivans
The Volvo EM90 has become the electric MPV that wants to conquer China
Volvo has dared to launch an electric MPV on the Chinese market, with generous dimensions and plenty of features for a practical vehicle.

MPVs seem not to be welcome in Europe, and their place has gradually been taken by SUVs, but in Asia that has not happened. Yes, SUVs are as fashionable as they are in Europe, but MPVs keep their space in the market and are even making a comeback to remain important. Volvo is very aware of this and has just unveiled the Volvo EM90, an elegant electric MPV presented in China.
It is the first model of this kind built by Volvo, which, with the support of Geely, is entering a market as important as China and wants to offer a good experience to its buyers. Volvo claims that it is a reinterpretation of the Volvo Duett, which appeared in 1953, but in reality this minivan looks quite like a Zeekr 09 dressed in a body in the Volvo style.

Its dimensions are similar: a length of 5,209 mm, a width of 2,024 mm and a height of 1,867 mm. The wheelbase measures 3,205 mm, which guarantees a comfortable interior space. In fact, it is a six-seat vehicle, arranged in three rows of two individual seats each.

Comfortable and technological interior
The two seats in the second row are captain’s seats, with plenty of features that make them very comfortable. They also have a folding tray, and a 15.6-inch pull-down screen descends from the ceiling offering third-party audiovisual content to make the journey more pleasant.
It is not the only screen on board, as the digital instrument cluster is shown on another, and the main screen, which manages the information and entertainment system, measures 15.4 inches. The cabin offers a very clean look, with few controls in sight.
The ADAS on board also make driving easier, working thanks to several cameras, sensors and radars that capture information around the vehicle and interpret it to carry out the necessary manoeuvres.

Powertrain
This electric MPV has a single motor, which delivers 200 kW, equivalent to 268 CV. The battery powering this motor has a capacity of 116 kWh and comes from the Chinese manufacturer CATL. The range offered by this model is around 738 kilometres, but under the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle, which is somewhat more lenient than the European one. According to WLTP, the figure would be around 650 kilometres.
In addition, the Volvo EM90 is equipped with a bidirectional charging system, so it is capable of supplying energy to other external devices. For now, this MPV from the Swedish brand will not have the dual motor that the Zeekr 009 does, which delivers a combined output of 400 kW, equivalent to 536 CV.
The starting price of the Volvo EM90 on the Chinese market is 818,000 yuan, which in euros amounts to roughly 105,000 euros.
