Top 10 cars with more than 1,000 horsepower

The hypercar segment is becoming increasingly crowded, so it is no longer so difficult to find cars with more than 1,000 horsepower. That’s why we present the 10 most notable ones.

The supercar segment has gained more contenders in recent years, although the obsession with achieving the highest power output created a separate category: hypercars. Within this category, we have grown used to seeing absurd power figures, so it’s no longer surprising to see cars with more than 1,000 horsepower.

The first car to become popular for surpassing the magical thousand-horsepower mark was the Bugatti Veyron, which, thanks to a 16-cylinder W engine displacing 16.4 litres, claimed a final output of 1,001 horsepower. From that moment on, some manufacturers decided that the title of the most powerful car in the world was too attractive to leave in the hands of the VAG Group beast, so they began launching even more powerful models.

Fifteen years after the Bugatti Veyron was launched, its power has already been surpassed by a good number of cars, and the most powerful model in our Top 10 of cars with more than 1,000 horsepower nearly doubles the output of the French brand’s model.

Something curious about this contest is that the brands with the most pedigree in the sports car sector (Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini…) have no entries that could join this exclusive list. In it, we find models built in small factories and others developed by better-known brands as experiments to test their technologies. That’s why we are going to show you the list of the 10 cars with more than 1,000 horsepower on the market.

Mercedes-Benz AMG-One

The star brand’s first hypercar takes the technology gained from its experience in Formula 1, where it has for several years been the undisputed leading team, and brings it to the road. The Mercedes-Benz AMG-One features a highly advanced active aerodynamics system and a hybrid propulsion system that exceeds 1,000 horsepower. This model is still in the testing phase, so we will have to wait to see how it holds up against the rest of the contenders.

McLaren Speedtail

Top10 coches de más de 1.000 caballosThis beautiful sports car with very aerodynamic lines was presented at the recent Geneva Motor Show as the natural successor to the legendary McLaren F1. Proof of this mission is its interior layout, which has three seats in a 1+2 arrangement and a fully centred driving position.

Under the bonnet of this car sits a hybrid engine that produces no less than 1,035 horsepower and 1,149 Nm of torque. It has a 4.0-litre twin-turbo engine producing 746 horsepower and an electric motor of 308 horsepower. Thanks to these, it reaches 300 km/h in just 12.8 seconds.

Aston Martin Valkyrie

The British brand has pushed the boundaries with the creation of the Aston Martin Valkyrie, a model presented at the recent Geneva Show. Like its predecessors, it relies on hybridisation to achieve 1,160 horsepower. However, the most surprising thing is that its 6.0-litre V12 engine can spin up to 11,100 rpm, a rev range more typical of a sports motorcycle.

This model features a KERS system taken directly from Formula 1, which gives the car an additional 160 horsepower and 250 Nm for a few seconds. And, as if that weren’t enough, Aston Martin has up its sleeve the AMR Performance pack, which makes the car’s performance even more mind-blowing.

NIO EP9

Top10 coches de más de 1.000 caballosHere is the first fully electric example in this Top 10 of cars with more than 1,000 horsepower. For now, it holds the title of fastest electric car at the Nürburgring with a time of 6’45″90, although it surely won’t hold it for much longer. This hypercar of Chinese origin has four motors delivering 1,341 horsepower, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.

Koenigsegg Jesko

Top10 coches de más de 1.000 caballosThe small Swedish manufacturer has accustomed us to creating the most beastly examples on the market. Its latest offspring is the Koenigsegg Jesko, a car with a spectacular aerodynamic package dominated by a rear wing that could pass for the wings of a small aeroplane. It features a 5.0-litre V8 with two turbos which, when fuelled with E85 bioethanol, reaches no less than 1,600 horsepower.

Hennessey Venom F5

Top10 coches de más de 1.000 caballosHennessey is another of those small manufacturers who regularly leave people’s jaws on the floor with their incredible creations. They specialise in modifying cars from other brands, for example with the 1,200-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. However, they also found time to declare war in the hypercar segment. The American model has a 7.4-litre engine and two turbochargers delivering 1,622 horsepower. Thanks to this brutal powertrain, it reaches 300 km/h in 10 seconds and takes less than 20 to pass 400 km/h.

Corbellati Missile

Top10 coches de más de 1.000 caballosThe Corbellati Missile is the least known car on our list, since its styling is less spectacular than the others and its name sounds like the typical sports car from “The Simpsons”. However, calling a car “Missile” is a statement of intent, and this car really is one.

It has a V8 block assisted by two turbochargers to reach the brutal figure of 1,800 horsepower. The reason this hypercar was conceived is to break the 500 km/h barrier, something it has yet to demonstrate. Still, with this much power under the right pedal, it seems more than likely it will exceed that speed without breaking a sweat.

Rimac C_Two

Top10 coches de más de 1.000 caballosThe kings of the list are electric, which makes it clear that this kind of technology, besides being environmentally friendly, makes it possible to build genuinely fast cars. The Rimac C_Two is the successor to the Concept One, the car in which presenter Richard Hammond had a spectacular crash in an episode of “The Grand Tour”.

This evolution is even more radical, as it has 1,914 horsepower and 2,300 Nm of torque, meaning that with one stomp of the pedal it could alter the rotation of planet Earth. It reaches 100 km/h in 1.85 seconds and has a range of 550 kilometres.

Pininfarina Battista

Así rueda el Battista. The Pininfarina Battista has landed as a brutal electric hypercar that has earned second place in our ranking. It produces 1,926 horsepower, enough to reach 100 km/h in under two seconds.

Only 150 units of the Pininfarina Battista will be built (50 for Europe, 50 for America and another 50 for Asia), and its goal is clear: to go head to head with the number one on our list. We don’t know its official price, though it will surely comfortably exceed two million euros.

Lotus Evija

Lotus EvijaThe legendary brand has made its biggest bet with the Lotus Evija, a hypercar that becomes the most powerful series-production vehicle in the world. It will produce a dizzying 2,000 horsepower for a total weight of 1,680 kilos.

The British firm intends to build 130 units at a price of 1.88 million euros. However, the car can already be reserved by paying no less than 280,000 euros, which will be deducted from the final payment.
