Toyota confirms that the new Supra will feature a 6-cylinder inline engine

Toyota has confirmed that the new Supra will hide a turbocharged 6-cylinder inline engine, which could deliver more than 350 CV

The rebirth of legends is something that excites every car enthusiast, since we find ourselves once again with vehicles that marked a before and after in automotive history. Toyota has done the same with the Supra, a sports car that during its production run was one of the most iconic, especially in its last generation. But the Japanese firm decided to give many of us what we wanted: bring its quintessential sports car back to life and let us share in its presence. Today, Toyota has confirmed the mechanical package hidden inside it.

The new Supra is born from a collaboration with BMW, since both the new Z4 and the Japanese sports car share numerous components, including the engine. Toyota got us eager a few days ago with the confirmation that the Supra would make an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an event that kicks off at the end of this week, and that promises countless surprises.

However, the Japanese firm wanted to heighten our excitement about meeting the new Supra with news about which engine will be responsible for bringing to life one of the most iconic sports cars of all time. This gives us an idea of how radical and fun this new generation of Toyota’s charismatic sports car could be, which will at the same time become a tough rival for the competition.

As is customary at BMW, the mechanical layout of a six-cylinder inline block will be responsible not only for powering the new Z4, but also the Toyota Supra. We are all delighted by this news, since the presence of this engine implies quite high figures, making the Japanese sports car one of the fastest in its segment thanks to the strong power-to-weight ratio it will offer.

Another piece of news that Toyota has confirmed is that all the power will be sent exclusively to the rear axle of the new Supra, making driving fun multiply. In this way, the Supra will become the ideal companion for sliding the rear on the track alongside its smaller sibling, the GT-86, another vehicle that follows the pure and hardcore philosophy of a sports car.

For now, Toyota has made no statements about the engine’s power output or displacement, but we can infer that the Supra will be capable of delivering close to 350 CV or even slightly more. In the meantime, we will have to wait until July 12, the moment when not only the Festival of Speed begins, but also when Toyota unveils its latest creation exclusively, which arrives to revive a legend.
