Toyota Corolla Cross: the new compact hybrid SUV makes its debut in Europe

With very attractive styling, plenty of technology and hybrid powertrains, the new Corolla Cross is officially presented, ready to arrive in Europe

Toyota Corolla Cross

First presented in Thailand back in 2020, the Corolla Cross debuted as an appealing option in the SUV segment, with plenty of qualities to earn considerable relevance. At that time, nothing was announced about whether it would reach the old continent at any point, but Toyota has now decided to take matters in hand, officially presenting the model for Europe.

With this launch, the Corolla Cross will join Toyota’s SUV range, alongside its siblings the Toyota C-HR, the RAV4 and the Yaris Cross. In addition, the Corolla range will also be completed, now including the Hatchback version, the Saloon version, the Touring and this newly launched version called Cross.

Very pleasing to the eye

In terms of design, the new model features a large grille, bumpers that give it a strong visual robustness, and horizontally arranged headlights that give it a rather sharp and sporty look.

Turning 90 degrees, we note the plastic cladding at the lower part, similar to that at the front, which adds visual height and gives it a certain off-road character.

Added to this, we also highlight new alloy wheels, roof bars and a line with pronounced shapes both on its front wing and on the hip.

Finishing at the rear, the new Corolla Cross debuts a new rear bumper that follows the same line as the front one, in plastic colour with an aluminium-coloured trim. We can also see new rear lights with LED technology, a small spoiler and a shark-fin style antenna.

A spacious and technological interior

Built on the GA-C platform, the interior of the new Corolla Cross boasts great interior space. Featuring a 10.5-inch floating touchscreen and a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster leading the technology section of the new SUV.

Another of the strong points with which the new Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid will compete against major rivals such as the Peugeot 3008, the recently updated Nissan Qashqai or the Hyundai Tucson is its extensive list of driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, or the pre-collision safety system with pedestrian detection.

The engine of the new Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid

Under the bonnet we find a 2.0-litre petrol engine which, together with the small electric motor of the 30.6 kW hybrid system (41.6 CV), allows it to produce up to 199 CV of total power. According to Toyota, this will enable it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds.

For now, the Japanese brand has only announced that the first customer deliveries will take place around autumn of next year, 2022, so over the coming months, at Highmotor we will bring you all the news and details about this new model.
