Up for auction: James May's Porsche 911

Porsche 911 James May subasta (5)

James May, the former Top Gear presenter, was nicknamed ‘Captain Slow’ on the show. That was fairly obvious, since of the three presenters May was by far the least ‘burnt out’. Among his car collection, which we already told you had just gained a Ferrari 458 Speciale, is this 1984 Porsche 911, which will go under the hammer on 25 June at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

As well as being a Porsche classic, this 911 Carrera 3.2 has a reputation as one of the most dynamic and fun-to-drive cars from the Stuttgart firm. It is powered by a 3.2-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing 231 CV, only 25 CV less than the Turbo variant of the 930 generation. Despite these figures and the car’s reputation, James May states in the auction description that it was only used as a leisure vehicle for a short period of time. That is why it has covered just 88,513 km in over 30 years.

And that corresponds to the last four years, when the former presenter donated his Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 to his father, who has now decided it is ‘a bit too old to be seen in a retro sports car by a stockbroker’. It will therefore go under the hammer through the house of Bonhams, which states the car was bought in May 2007 and comes with a CD player, which its new owner may replace with the original cassette radio that James May includes with the car.

On the other hand, Bonhams is offering with the car the original workshop manual, the Porsche UK correspondence, the service booklet, invoices for various services, the vehicle documentation (the most recent in James May’s own name), and all the road tax dating back to 1984. All of this can be yours for the price the car reaches at auction on 25 June, which is expected to range between 38,850 and 47,150 euros.
