Video: a Ferrari designer imagines a modern Ferrari F40
Today we came across this reinterpretation of the Ferrari F40 by Frank Stephenson, a designer who has brought several Ferrari models to life.
I think we all agree that the Ferrari F40 is one of the greatest and most acclaimed Ferrari cars of all time. Its structural design, its purity, its simplicity, and the fact that it was the last Cavallino Rampante supervised by Enzo Ferrari are reason enough to justify such praise for the Italian supercar. However, this love for the F40 has also led many to fantasize about a modern reinterpretation, and that is exactly what has led Frank Stephenson to do so.
And perhaps this name won’t sound very familiar, but he is the person behind the design of the Ferrari F430 and the Ferrari 599 GTB, among other iconic models such as the MINI or the BMW X5. Today he has decided to give us what he considers to be a modern Ferrari F40, and we believe he has more than enough expertise to carry out this task, don’t you think?
Whether we like the Ferrari F40 or not, Stephenson shows us that, from a purely design standpoint, there are few faults to find in the Italian supercar. With this premise, not many changes are applied to this hypothetical contemporary F40, a creation in which they have made sure to keep its charismatic spirit intact.

The first step is to start from a base, that of the Ferrari F40. Once that is established, we come across new sketches that seek to offer a fairly conservative reinterpretation. The front shows sharper, more angular and crisp lines, very typical of today’s Ferrari design language, but they respect the traditional F40 with a single, more aggressive air intake and the characteristic retractable headlights, which, unfortunately, could not reach production today.
The side barely shows any alterations, except for mirrors placed in a higher position, but it is at the rear where we see a more voluminous spoiler along with a sort of appendage intended to benefit aerodynamics. We can also surmise that the taillights and exhaust tailpipe would undergo some kind of modification, although we will be left with doubts.

Without a doubt, many would be delighted with a reinterpretation of the Ferrari F40, but we must still wait to discover what the future holds for the Ferrari F80, the successor to the LaFerrari. Either way, the Cavallino Rampante brand is getting ready to surprise us once again with a vehicle that promises to be innovative and extremely fast.
