The new Volkswagen Golf GTI has taken to the Autobahn to unleash its performance and show what it is capable of.

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI is causing a lot of buzz – though not as much as its upcoming big brother, the Golf R – which is hardly surprising given that it is a legend in the segment. However, this legend has had to reinvent itself over the years, adapting to the needs of buyers both aesthetically and mechanically. With this premise in mind, today we bring you a video of the new Golf GTI showing off its performance on the Autobahn.

And it is that in our protagonist’s homeland there are a number of motorway stretches with no speed limits, however unlikely that may seem. In this way, and without the need to go to a circuit, we can witness the capabilities of sporty models like this new Volkswagen Golf GTI.

With the eighth generation of the German compact, Volkswagen has not introduced too many changes when it comes to mechanics. The archetypal 2.0 TSI four-cylinder turbo engine is still there, and on this occasion it produces 245 CV and 370 Nm of torque, figures that allow the Golf GTI 8 to reach a top speed of 250 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.

However, it is necessary to put it to the test and check first-hand how faithful the new GTI is to its figures. This is exactly what the team at AuTopNL thought, and without hesitation they decided to take the latest version of the German compact to the Autobahn to experience first-hand what it is capable of.

And after managing to cope with the characteristic traffic of German motorways, they manage to reach 250 km/h just as Volkswagen stipulates. Without a doubt, we are looking at a very fast car, but what can we expect from the new Golf GTI Clubsport and the upcoming R? Variants that will very possibly – especially the latter – dare to flirt with 300 km/h should the top speed be lifted.

Be that as it may, we are witnessing the rapid evolution of the sporty compact segment, a class of vehicles that now have access to figures and performance that until not long ago were reserved for high-flying sports cars. Do these cars have a limit? Because it is only a matter of time before they break barriers that were unthinkable in the past for a vehicle of this kind.
