Audi e-tron Electric Cars SUV Technology
Virtual mirrors are arriving, and they will be homologated for the Audi E-Tron
We recently saw the interior of the Audi E-Tron, with its three touchscreens, although this time we focus on the virtual mirrors it will feature

Technology never stops surprising us. And when a technological innovation represents a considerable advance, it usually debuts on a prototype. The Audi E-Tron is one of these prototypes and aims to be the first electric SUV for every budget. It is not the first in this category, but the German manufacturer wants to position itself in this market with this model. And besides everything it brings to the automotive world, it will feature side cameras instead of wing mirrors.
The system is called Audi Virtual Mirror and consists of two cameras, one on each side, which capture the image just as traditional mirrors would. But what matters is how the images captured by those cameras are displayed. The screens showing what the cameras see are located in the doors, so they can be viewed easily, and they offer an even wider field of view and can be adjusted, and they also allow zooming in for greater definition.

This digital mirror system offers three viewing modes: motorway driving, winding roads and parking. This way you can be sure the mirror images will be exactly what you need to drive safely. The Audi E-Tron will be unveiled at the Audi Summit, which will take place in San Francisco in September.
It is not the first car to propose this, and we assume it will still be a project that has to go through the necessary authorisations and homologations. In any case, the version that will initially go on sale, the most basic one, will feature traditional mirrors. The virtual mirrors will be available as an option and will carry a considerable cost.
The interior of the Audi E-Tron has been made public long before the bodywork, and in it we can see five screens. Besides the two of the virtual mirror system, there is the one in front of the steering wheel showing the vehicle’s instrumentation. There is also the central screen, which handles the infotainment system, and finally a third one controls the equipment such as the climate control. In a couple of months we will see it in full, but this preview makes us eager to see it.
