Volkswagen already has a partner for its new Scout brand: it will soon arrive in the United States
The arrival of the Scout brand in the American market, after several decades discontinued, will become a reality with the participation of Magna Steyr.

It was revealed some time ago that Volkswagen would revive a brand it had already used before in the United States. Scout was a brand specialized in vehicles designed for that market, and it operated during the 1960s and 1970s. Although its models were designed to succeed in a market where pick-up trucks and off-road vehicles were the best-sellers, it never became as popular as it needed to be to keep it active.
But only a few months ago, it became known that the German brand wanted to re-enter the American market, this time with electric vehicles, but designed to position themselves in the country. The reintroduction of the brand is the response to the cool reception that Volkswagen’s electric models, registered under the name ID, have received. Now, it will be the Scout models that will fight to carve out a niche in the United States.

Two models to enter the United States market
The arrival of Scout will take place with two models. One of them is an SUV and the other a pick-up, both fully electric. Both models will feature an entirely new platform, developed specifically for these new vehicles. This means that the company’s MEB platform will not be used; instead, it will rely on the collaboration of another company that will contribute its knowledge and experience to the development of these new electric vehicles.
The other company participating in this new venture is Magna Steyr. The company is one of those considered secondary in the automotive sector, responsible for offering solutions and fundamental components for vehicles that are later sold under the main brands.
Magna Steyr is based in Austria and its role in this partnership with Volkswagen will be to devote itself entirely to engineering. The agreement will cost Volkswagen around 492 million dollars, but the investment does not end there, since the German company will also have to modify the production lines at the South Carolina plant where the vehicles will be manufactured, in order to adapt them to the new models.
With this agreement, which had been in preparation for several months, the first step toward the return of the Scout brand with guarantees is taken, to position itself in a market as complicated and with models as popular as the American one.
