Volkswagen could be developing a sporty SUV based on the T-Roc
Volkswagen has once again entered the depths of the Nürburgring to develop what could be an R-badged variant of its smallest SUV, the T-Roc.

Sportiness and SUVs are two concepts that are becoming very closely associated, a relationship that is producing genuinely appealing products. Volkswagen, a brand that is embracing a large SUV family within its lineup, may be about to open the doors to a sporty and radical variant. The T-Roc has been chosen by the German manufacturer to receive a much more aggressive engine, which will bring out a personality never before seen in a Volkswagen SUV.
The various brands within the Volkswagen Group are responding to this demand for sporty SUVs with a major offensive, but the parent company itself has not been known for offering one of these models until now. The T-Roc was developed alongside the Golf, one of the models from the brand whose range includes sporty versions.
The GTI and R badges inspire awe in the world of sporty compacts, and this lettering may soon be added to the Volkswagen T-Roc. Until now, customers of the German SUV could choose the R-Line trim to accentuate the aesthetics of this latest Volkswagen creation, but we may be on the verge of seeing a variant in which the R badge would stop being a mere cosmetic pack.

These rumours began after spotting a T-Roc test mule running at full speed around the Nürburgring. It also shows aesthetic upgrades and considerable width, accompanied by larger wheels with a specific design and more powerful brakes. However, the real mystery we face is the engine hidden beneath the bonnet of the T-Roc R.
On the one hand, we can assume that the well-known 2.0 TFSI that powers both the Golf GTI and R could be the one to animate the German SUV. In this way, we could be talking about a total output of 310 CV and a torque figure of 380 Nm. At the same time, this model would feature all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

For now the German manufacturer has made no statement on the matter, but we can be sure that this sporty variant of the T-Roc is no mere rumour. Volkswagen continues to work on and develop this mysterious SUV, which could be unveiled at the next Geneva Motor Show.
