Toyota continues to reveal what the new Corolla range has in store for us, this time with the estate variant “hybrid Touring Sports”, which will also be at Paris

Just a few days ago Toyota announced that it was reviving a legendary name such as Corolla, a name that left its mark both in the world of rallying and, consequently, on road cars. The Corolla name returns to the Toyota range to replace another name that has brought it several sales successes so far, Auris, so the combination of a successful model with a historic name looks set to be fruitful.

Taking advantage of the name change, the now new Toyota Corolla will also be renewed in both its styling and mechanics, as we saw in the images of its compact version that will be present at the Paris Motor Show in October. Alongside it on the Toyota stand we will also find the Corolla hybrid Touring Sports, its estate version, which consequently has its bodywork modified to offer more space and comfort.

Exteriorly it will not offer changes when viewed from the front; it is from the side and rear where the changes will be obvious. Starting with its innards, the Corolla hybrid Touring Sports makes use of the new GA-C platform derived from TNGA, which means we are looking at a model with specific properties, rather than a variation of the five-door compact version.

As is usually the case with estate versions, the significant changes are at the rear, with the roofline extended, which in the case of the Corolla hybrid Touring Sports is done smoothly to achieve a sportier look, an image reinforced to a greater extent by the use of wider wheel arches. This image is perhaps most evident when looking at its rear, its bumper, LED light cluster and a rear window with a greater rake.

Inside, as has been happening with other Asian brands, Toyota has also embraced a design based on European tastes and trends, together with special attention to improving and introducing higher-quality materials. But the Corolla hybrid Touring Sports has also paid attention to interior space, something in which the GA-C platform plays an important role: with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm it allows more legroom in the rear seats (specifically 928 mm between the front and rear seats), as well as a boot capacity of 600 litres.

Mechanically, Toyota is gradually revealing details of what we will find, and under its bonnet we will be able to fit two hybrid alternatives: on the one hand the 1.8-litre engine delivering 122 CV and, on the other, the 2.0-litre engine with 180 CV. For the time being we do not have consumption figures, but Toyota states that these two engines, and especially the 2.0-litre, will offer an unrivalled combination of performance, consumption and emissions within its segment.

Finally, in terms of equipment, both the five-door Corolla and this estate version will offer a generous standard specification, which can be complemented by a wide range of premium options, such as the JBL GreenEdge sound system, wireless smartphone charging, the new Toyota Touch multimedia system or, as you can see in the photos, the electric panoramic roof.
