We already knew that Volkswagen was preparing a relaunch of the Volkswagen Multivan T7. We also knew that within the full offering of this model we could find a plug-in hybrid version. And it hasn’t kept us waiting, so it has already released the first details about this variant, which will allow for cleaner and more efficient mobility.

We know that the plug-in hybrid variant of this model will feature a dual-clutch transmission, a turbocharged petrol engine, an electric motor and a battery pack that will power it. What we are not yet clear on are the characteristics of this hybrid drive system.

First information

What we do know about this van is that the battery will be placed in the floor of the vehicle, a location that will maximise cargo space and lower the vehicle’s centre of gravity. The charging point will be located on the passenger side and, from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, will offer Wallbox-type charging points for fast charging at home.

Although there is no official data, the brand assures that this variant will have sufficient electric range to cover the daily commute in electric mode in most cases. In addition, starting will always take place in electric mode, and the combustion engine will only come into action when required by increased speed or when the battery is depleted.

Finding the balance has been the guiding principle in this case. Electric mobility operates predominantly and gives way to the combustion engine only when required. In this way, the user can use the electric motor during urban journeys and save traditional fuel for longer trips.

The date of the presentation of the Volkswagen T7 Multivan will be June 10, and it will be then that we will be able to learn all the details about the different variants of the model. That day we will know whether the MQB platform has been used and all the engines that will be available in the brand’s range. Diesel versions are not ruled out and this plug-in hybrid version will be featured, which will be given prominence in order to promote the brand’s electrification.
