Volkswagen Tayron: this is the new seven-seat German SUV set to replace the Tiguan Allspace

Volkswagen wants the Tayron, a seven-seat SUV sold in China, to reach other markets as a replacement for the Tiguan Allspace in Europe.

Volkswagen Tayron China 2

Major brands have models that are only sold in certain markets. China’s is one of the best known for its special characteristics. And it is there that Volkswagen is selling the Tayron, a seven-seat SUV that is about to make the leap to other countries. Among those countries is India, but there are also plans to bring this model to Europe and even to the United States and Canada.

This model does not have a set name in the new markets where it will be sold, although it is believed that in the United States and Canada it will be called Volkswagen Tiguan, as it is expected to replace this SUV with this long-wheelbase version of the model. In Europe it is expected to keep the name Tayron.

In both cases, it will use the MQB platform used by the new generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan, although in this case it will have seven seats. The overall look of both vehicles will be similar, although different elements will be designed so that they are not exactly the same, with a different front end and other styling details that will set them apart at first glance.

As for the interior, although they will also receive different treatments, they will have very similar equipment. This means they will have a 15-inch multimedia screen and a comprehensive suite of ADAS systems. Depending on the trim level, the SUV may have equipment such as LED headlights and adaptive suspension.

In China the Tayron X is also being sold, which is the five-seat version of this SUV and which could also reach the North American market, so the Tiguan’s replacement would be complete in that market. In Europe the Tayron is expected to replace the Tiguan Allspace, the seven-seat version.

This model has two petrol engines, with 150 and 190 CV, as well as two diesel engines, with 150 and 200 CV. It does not have a plug-in hybrid powertrain, as the five-seat Tiguan does. This model is scheduled to arrive in Europe in 2025, although production will move to the Wolfsburg plant in Germany. This could bring production forward by a few months.

For now, however, this model still holds several unknowns, such as its arrival date, whether it will definitively replace the Tiguan Allspace, and other details. What is certain is that it will arrive in Europe, North America and India.
