Volvo XC40 2023: small changes to stay competitive

After winning the European Car of the Year award four years ago, the smallest model in the Volvo range is being updated to keep competing strongly in the Spanish market.

The XC40’s success in our market is particularly noteworthy, with 27% of sales in plug-in hybrid versions and 25% in pure electric versions. This ratio holds across the entire Volvo range in Spain, where 45% of total sales are made up of the Recharge versions: 29% plug-in hybrids and 16% battery electrics. In total, the brand plans to register 13,000 units in 2022, achieving a market share of 1.6%, in a market of 820,000 units. The target for 2023 is 15,000, maintaining the same share, but total market growth is estimated to reach 900,000 units.

The XC40 is the Volvo with the highest sales volume in Spain and the one with the broadest range of available powertrains, following a clear electrification strategy. It offers a variety of powertrains in which ¾ of the range is electrified, with diesel engines dropped entirely.

Aesthetically, it updates its look with a new, more modern front end, in line with the C40. Highlights include a new bumper, redesigned light clusters with 84 LEDs, mirror housings painted in body colour, new-design wheels that are more aerodynamic on the Recharge variant, and optional “all-weather” tyres available as an option.
