Would you pay €650,000 for a manual Ferrari 599 GTB?

Quite a question, eh? At first glance, it doesn’t seem very logical, considering we’re talking about a model that is no longer in production and has been technically surpassed by both its successor and its rivals.

However, the purpose of this article is to tell you that this is precisely what has happened. Indeed, someone has paid €650,000 for a Ferrari 599 GTB at auction.

Specifically in the USA, at an auction held by the house RM Auctions Sotheby’s Amelia Island, one of the most reputable in the world of luxury motoring. The unit auctioned, whose “real” price should not exceed €250,000, was first registered in 2007, and since then its owners have covered nearly 7,000 km with it, always keeping it with an almost obsessive care. In fact, to put this in perspective, it’s worth noting that the 599 GTB has always been stored under electronically controlled temperature and humidity conditions.

But is good maintenance and low mileage really worth paying three times more for a car eight years after its first registration? No, other factors have massively influenced the inflation of this monumental Italian’s price. Mainly, one of its equipment features has been what “revolutionised” the sale of the Ferrari. It is one of only 20 units sold in the USA with a manual gearbox.

Currently, there is no model in the Ferrari range on sale that can be purchased with a manual gearbox, the 599 GTB being the last Ferrari to offer that option. This fact therefore makes the Ferrari one of the most exclusive units currently available for sale, which has caused its value at auction to balloon like a balloon.
