7 alternatives to the SEAT Ateca: who said the SUV was dead?

The launch of the SEAT Ateca has been a genuine revolution in the compact SUV segment, a territory previously unknown for the Spanish brand.
It enters one of the most competitive segments of recent years and, although it arrives late, it is set to make a real impact.
If you have already made up your mind to buy a compact SUV, the Ateca has surely convinced you even more. However, among the wide range of brands and models on offer today, there may be one that suits your needs even better. Here are seven alternatives to the Ateca, which is on promotion until 30 June and can be yours for 18,800€ in the Style version with the 1.0 TSI 115 CV engine and very comprehensive equipment.
Nissan Qashqai

Little needs to be said at this point about the Nissan Qashqai, one of the best-known vehicles of recent years in Spain. Launched more than 10 years ago, the Qashqai pioneered this segment and has been the undisputed leader until now. For 18,425€ you can get the 1.2 DIG-T 115 CV 4×2 version in Visia trim, the most basic one.
Its standard equipment includes items such as 6 airbags, ESP, cruise control with speed limiter, air conditioning, USB port and electric handbrake, among others.
Opel Mokka

The Mokka got off to a somewhat hesitant start, with sales that did not inspire much confidence and suggested an uncertain future. However, little by little it has won the hearts of Spanish drivers, carving out its own niche and becoming one of the best-selling compact SUVs at the moment, helped also by a good discount policy from the brand.
So, for 15,800€, you can get a Mokka 1.4 Turbo 140 CV 4×2 with features such as the Opel OnStar® system with 4G WiFi for 7 devices, 17″ alloy wheels, cruise control and Start&Stop system.
KIA Sportage

The Sportage is another of those models that has enjoyed great success among Spanish buyers, especially since the previous generation. It was recently redesigned only a few months ago, and its followers already number in the thousands. The new Sportage is better equipped than ever, and with a price that will make the Ateca’s entry harder.
For 17,302€ you can get a Sportage 1.6 GDI 135 CV 4×2 with equipment including, among other items, an audio system with USB connection, 6 airbags, 16″ wheels, air conditioning, Bluetooth, front and rear electric windows and a multifunction steering wheel.
Volkswagen Tiguan

The Tiguan cannot be missing from a list like this. Although its approach is somewhat more premium than that of its rivals, although its price is higher -noticeably higher- than most of the options presented here, and although for now it is only available with a diesel engine, it shares its philosophy and construction with the Ateca, and it was also the brand’s first compact SUV.
Its price is 10,000€ higher than the Ateca’s, but it is one of the Spanish public’s favourites. For 29,770€ you get a Tiguan Edition 2.0 TDI BMT 150 CV 4×2 with 17-inch wheels, cruise control, light and rain sensors, 7 airbags, 8 speakers, rear camera, “Front Assist” emergency braking system and a photochromic rear-view mirror, among others.
Renault Kadjar

The Kadjar is another of the “newcomers” in the segment. Like the Ateca, it arrived late to the market, and like the Ateca, beneath its bodywork lies a technical and mechanical base shared with other models, in this case the Qashqai. It has only been on the market a few months but is already posting good sales figures.
For 20,250€ Renault it offers a Kadjar Life TCe 130 CV 4×2 with LED daytime running lights, electric handbrake, ESP, emergency braking assist, CD radio, cruise control, air conditioning and 16″ steel wheels with wheel trims.
Ford Kuga

The Kuga is already a familiar face on the Spanish market. It was also one of the first models to follow the Qashqai’s trend, and it is now in its more modern and mature second generation. It is not the best-selling model in the segment, but it enjoys good health.
Ford offers a Kuga Trend (still without the facelift) for 17,990€, equipped with the 1.5 EcoBoost 120 cv 4×2 engine. Standard equipment highlights include 17″ steel wheels, air conditioning, on-board computer, cruise control, push-button start, 7 airbags and the Ford EcoMode driving mode system.
Mazda CX-5

The last one selected from the list of alternatives to the SEAT Ateca is the Mazda CX-5, the Mazda alternative for the compact SUV segment. It is one of the most popular models at the moment, which despite several years on the market has managed to keep up with the times thanks to a light facelift a few months ago that has restored its freshness.
Its Skyactiv diesel and petrol engines also stand out, promising almost unbeatable figures for fuel economy and performance. In this case the most affordable version comes courtesy of a brand promotion, which asks 24,124€ for a CX-5 SKYACTIV-G 165 CV 4×2 Style+. This edition includes LED headlights, 17″ wheels, front and rear parking sensors, city emergency braking assist and cruise control, among other features.
