Airstream Interstate 24X, the camper van built for the great outdoors
The company, which specialises in manufacturing motorhomes and trailers, has converted a Mercedes Sprinter 3500 into this versatile off-road motorhome.

Airstream is a company that manufactures motorhomes and trailers and it presents many attractive models. In this case it has set its sights on a Mercedes Sprinter 3500 and converted it into a motorhome for enjoying the outdoors. It has named it Airstream Interstate 24X and it is in fact an off-road version of its Interstate 24, capable of driving over the most challenging terrain in search of the best spot to rest on a getaway.
The van has a wheelbase of 432 centimetres and a usable length of 7.30 metres, which makes it a good vehicle for enjoying a getaway in the countryside. It is set up for off-road driving, with additional light bars and reinforcing elements to withstand the stress of this kind of journey away from the road.

Space to rest
This camper van has 6 seats, although there is only a bed for two people. It can be deployed at the rear or front, and can also be configured as two separate single beds. The kitchen has a sink and a worktop with two burners. It is also equipped with a microwave and a fridge-freezer to keep drinks and food fresh.
To round off the comfort, the van features a bathroom with hot water, washbasin, a heated towel rail and mirror. It also has a water heater, air conditioning and outdoor showers at the rear and side.

Electrical power management
The Airstream Interstate 24X has 300 W solar panels to charge the living-area batteries, plus an additional 100 W panel to charge the chassis battery. It features a 2,000 W power inverter and two Battle Born lithium batteries to power all the appliances. To avoid running out of power, it also includes a 2.5 kW generator that can be started when needed, including remotely.
Engine
The Mercedes Sprinter 3500 has a 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine producing 180 CV and 441 Nm of peak torque, which reaches all four wheels thanks to a 7-speed gearbox. The engine is powerful enough to tow a weight of 2,268 kg including the towbar weight.
This conversion costs $213,825 in the United States, so this is a very special and well-equipped vehicle. Will it reach Europe? We don’t know, but Americans will certainly be able to enjoy a very interesting vehicle for their countryside getaways.
