AMG GLC 63 S vs Porsche Macan Turbo: drag race between extreme SUVs
The AMG GLC 63 S and the Porsche Macan Turbo are two genuine heavyweights in the coveted SUV market. Today we will check, within the extreme performance both offer, which one is superior.
For now, the Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S has proven to be the fastest SUV around the Nürburgring in its category, with a time of 7 minutes and 49.3 seconds, absolutely incredible numbers for such a large and heavy car.
Its acceleration is capable of beating the AMG GT R from a standstill, at least when it comes to the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration.

And yes, it really is crazy to think that we live in a world where SUVs have become such an important trend that we can already find them with 500 CV engines or even more, much more…
To demonstrate how fast the Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S is, Top Gear pitted it against a Porsche Macan Turbo, which had the Performance pack fitted, in an epic drag race.
We missed seeing the Alfa Romeo Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio competing in the drag, as it is, honestly, the GLC’s biggest rival in price/performance range.

Compared to the GLC, the older Macan suffers in several areas. It has a twin-turbo 3.6-litre V8 engine that produces a total of 424 CV and 600 Nm of torque, all of this, of course, included only with the optional Performance pack. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds.

On the other hand, the new GLC 63 S has a twin-turbo 4.0 V8 that produces a total of 503 CV and 700 Nm of torque. Based on the numbers, we can see that the AMG has 71 CV of power and 100 Nm of torque extra over the Macan with the Performance pack, which clearly suggests it will be an easy win for the GLC, especially thanks to that extra torque, which at low revs will give it an additional push, but mind you, you never know…
To settle any doubts, let’s enjoy the race:

Indeed, as you may have observed, the Mercedes AMG GLC 63 S has been the clear winner. Thanks to those extra 100 Nm of torque alone, the winner was obvious. The Macan’s only chance lay in its weight, which it did not have either. Hopefully next time they’ll find a better rival for AMG’s powerful SUV.
