Toyota Yaris Curiosities Industry
As many as 3 million Toyota Yaris produced in Europe

Toyota is celebrating, as it has recently produced the 3 millionth Yaris built in Europe. A model that entered the market in its first generation 15 years ago, in 2001, and which is now exported to 39 European destinations as well as to the American countries of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. The Japanese brand is also very proud of its production plant in Valenciennes, France.
Specifically, the 3 millionth unit was produced on the 24th of June and is a Toyota Yaris hybrid with a two-tone black and white body, destined for a French customer.
The multinational looks back and shows us how it has evolved, especially in terms of efficiency, its representative model in the B segment. Despite the weight increases that virtually all vehicles have experienced over the last few decades (although the current trend is precisely to reduce weight to save fuel and emissions), the current Yaris hybrid compared with the 2001 Yaris manages to reduce CO2 emissions and consumption figures by almost half: specifically, CO2 is down 44% to 75 g/km and fuel consumption is down 41%, with a homologated figure of 3.3 litres per 100 kilometres, despite weighing around 200 kilos more.

As for the Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) plant, which has produced all three generations of the Japanese city car, over these 15 years since the arrival of the Toyota Yaris, it has received a total investment of more than 1,000 million euros. Toyota tells us that this French factory has a design that allows production with low levels of environmental pollution, and that it has also evolved over the years. In fact, they state that it currently consumes 90% less industrial water than in 2002 and that today it can run on recycled water and rainwater, without needing mains water.
They have also managed to reduce energy consumption by 57% compared with 2002 through specific measures. As for the CO2 emitted at the factory, they save around 21 tonnes of CO2 each year thanks to just two solutions, and no less than 1,285 tonnes annually from replacing an old gas boiler with a biomass one.
