Audi A3 Sportback 2020: range and prices for the Spanish market

The fourth generation of the Audi A3 goes on sale with Sportback bodywork and three engines, one TFSI and two TDI. These are the prices and the key points for choosing the right equipment.

Having seen the first details of the new Audi A3 Sportback, now is the time to analyse the range and the prices. For now there are three engines available, a petrol with 150 CV and two diesel with 116 and 150 CV. There are four trim levels: base, Advanced, S line and Black Line.

There are also some interesting packs worth considering. And a Genuine Edition special edition only for the launch, with a comprehensive equipment list, limited to 600 units. Let’s get to it.

The A3 Sportback engines: awaiting the Mild Hybrid versions

No, for now there are no versions with ECO or ZERO labels in the Audi A3 range. They are announced for later, and there will be variants both Mild Hybrid (ECO label) and the TFSIe plug-in hybrid (ZERO label), which should use the same propulsion system already known from the new VW Golf GTE or the SEAT León eHybrid.

The petrol engine is the 1.5 TFSI with 4 cylinders and 150 CV. The 2.0 diesel comes in 116 and 150 CV variants. Both the petrol and the less powerful diesel come as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the more powerful 2.0 TDI is paired with the S tronic gearbox. All of them are front-wheel drive; quattro four-wheel drive will arrive later, alongside more powerful versions.

The three launch versions and their prices are as follows:

• A3 Sportback 35 TFSI 6v: 29,070 euros
• A3 Sportback 30 TDI 6v: 30,010 euros
• A3 Sportback 35 TDI S tronic: 33,490 euros

The difference between the 1.5 TFSI petrol with 150 CV and the 2.0 TDI with 116 CV is 1,000 euros in favour of the petrol, so it is hard to justify choosing the diesel unless you cover very high annual mileage (clearly above 15,000 km). Bear in mind that the 1.5 TFSI is an engine that, besides being more pleasant than the diesel for everyday driving thanks to its smoothness and very linear response, can also use very little fuel if you go easy on the accelerator.

If it fits your budget, the more powerful 2.0 TDI with S tronic has it all: a balance between performance and consumption, with the advantages of an option that increasingly feels essential nowadays: the dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Equipment: make the most of the optional packs

One of the advantages of the Audi A3 Sportback is that its standard equipment is even more complete than the previous generation’s, and there are plenty of options and good-value packs to configure your A3 to your liking.

All A3s in base trim already include 16-inch alloy wheels, a multifunction steering wheel, digital instrumentation, two-zone climate control, LED headlights, the Audi pre sense front system to avoid collisions (with pedestrian and cyclist detection) and a lane departure warning system.

Moving up to the Advanced trim costs 2,000 euros more, and you get full LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, cruise control, rear parking assist, a mobile phone interface, a Audi phone box and decorative body details.

Above the Advanced, the S line trim includes a sport suspension (with firmer damping settings that lower the ride height by 15 mm), sport seats, 18-inch wheels, Audi drive select, a black roof and sporty exterior details. It costs 1,350 euros more than the Advanced trim. Above that is the Black Line, at an extra cost of 1,150 euros over the S line, which essentially adds distinctive decorative details, such as tinted windows, black mirror housings, specific wheels and a black optics pack.

Worth highlighting are the optional packs, which save between 25 and 35 percent compared with the price of the options included if bought separately.

We’ll pick two. The Confort pack costs 1,700 euros and adds the comfort key, electrically folding mirrors, an anti-dazzle interior mirror, a rear camera, an interior lighting system and a rear bench backrest split 40:20:40.

For 2,000 euros, the Tech pack adds the Audi virtual cockpit plus instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch screen, MMI Navigation plus and a multifunction plus steering wheel.

Genuine Edition special edition limited to 600 units

Only for the launch, and limited to 600 units, Audi offers a special edition at a very competitive price: the Audi A3 Sportback Genuine Edition.

This edition is based on the S line trim, adding the aforementioned Confort pack (which costs 1,700 euros) and the S line interior pack (around 1,500 euros), which includes mixed fabric and leather upholstery, a multifunction plus steering wheel, aluminium pedals and polished aluminium decorative inserts.

Compared with the 3,200 euros of extra cost the customer would pay choosing these two packs, the Audi A3 Genuine Edition represents an additional outlay of just 1,000 euros. For this special edition you can choose from three colours: white, black, red, blue or grey.
