Audi begins its electric transition with the e-tron and announces 12 full electric EVs for 2025
With the launch of the e-tron, Audi begins its transition to electric mobility: by 2025, a third of its sales will be electrified vehicles.

The brand of the four rings begins its transition to electric mobility with the launch, these days, of its first 100 percent electric model, the new Audi e-Tron, a model that represents the vanguard of the major product offensive the brand will carry out until 2025, when it expects that practically a third of its global sales will correspond to electrified vehicles.
By then, Audi plans to have up to twelve new 100 percent electric models, in addition to a wide range of electrified models based on the classic versions of its main models, in both Avant and Sportback variants. According to the brand’s statement, the range of electrified models “will fully cover all relevant market segments, from the compact class to the upper class.”

The new family of Audi electric vehicles will be developed from four technical platforms and common products, from which the various electric models will emerge, launched in the different market segments where the brand plans to be present with this electric mobility offer (from segment A to D).
Built on the modular longitudinal platform of Audi, the new e-tron and e-tron Sportback also incorporate quattro all-wheel drive with electric propulsion, an electric motor with fast charging of up to 150 kW, SUV bodywork, and feature a large number of “innovative technologies” in terms of drive systems. The first model to arrive after the e-tron and e-tron Sportback will be at the end of this same year, 2018: the concept e-tron GT, “a highly dynamic coupé” with a flat floor designed in collaboration with Porsche.

Likewise, the collaboration between both brands has given rise to the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which will serve as the basis for new electric models of Audi in segments B to D. Created exclusively for electric models, the new PPE platform offers important advantages in terms of weight, body proportions and drivetrain.
Just as Porsche and Audi collaborate on the development of the new PPE platform, other brands of the Volkswagen group work together on the development of the new MEB modular electric platform, which will also serve as the basis for future models of the brand of the four rings for segment A, one of which is being developed specifically for marketing in the Chinese market.

“In the future, practically all market segments will include models that operate with a combination of electric motors and a combustion engine, and that can be charged from an electrical outlet,” says Peter Mertens, member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at Audi AG.
