BMW delivers 169 police vehicles to the Madrid Municipal Police

The fleet of the Madrid Municipal Police has been reinforced with new cars delivered by BMW. 169 vehicles have been delivered, including plug-in hybrid and electric models. In other words, all the vehicles that will enter service shortly will carry 0 label or ECO. In total, the Madrid Municipal Police fleet now totals 470 units, with very different characteristics and from different brands.

In the case of the BMW units, a third of them feature electric traction, including fully electric and plug-in hybrid models. The rest, although they have combustion engines, are vehicles equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which earns them the ECO label.

The BMW i3 units, the electric model chosen by the city council, will patrol the streets of the city centre. This will allow them to comply with the municipal low-emission regulations and serve without emitting polluting gases.

Another of the models delivered is the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer 225xe, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which also carries a 0 label. The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer 220i is the first of the mild-hybrid cars, a system that also includes the BMW 5 Series Saloon 530i (MHEV). Both carry the ECO label, which also allows them to comply with the low-emission regulations.

Finally, the Madrid police forces have chosen the BMW X5 xDrive30d, also with a 48-volt mild-hybrid engine. These units are equipped with a winch, tow strap, hitch and a snow shovel. Another novelty is that these units have special protection to face certain situations that could put the officers driving them at risk.

The vehicles will enter service shortly and will be distributed across different areas and services, where their characteristics can be best suited.
