BMW orders the recall of more than 744,000 vehicles over fire risk
BMW faces the second half of 2026 with serious problems due to a mechanical failure and has requested the recall of hundreds of thousands of units of the brand.

Cars that are sold are usually all checked and should not present problems. But this does not always happen, and brands may find a fault in the design or manufacturing. In these cases, brands act quickly and require the affected vehicles to go to the workshop so the problem can be repaired. This is the case with BMW, which has had to request the recall of 744,234 vehicles due to a serious starting fault.
It seems the problem stems from deposits that form inside the starter relay. This causes the component to overheat excessively and may lead to a fairly serious fire when starting the vehicle. This recall affects 13 models of BMW manufactured between 2020 and 2026, so it covers part of its range over these last few years.

The situation is quite complicated, as it affects some of the most popular models in the BMW range, such as the 3 Series, the 5 Series, the X5 and the compact electric i3. Owners of these models and other affected customers have been notified through various channels so that they contact the authorised customer service centres to carry out the necessary inspections.
These inspections may involve replacing the compromised components. The high number of vehicles involved could overload the after-sales service over the coming months. It is important to note that no incident related to this problem has occurred, but BMW has chosen to act preventively.
Goodbye to the 2026 Paris Motor Show
The BMW group has also surprised with news that will have considerable repercussions. The brand will not be present at the Paris Motor Show. This is part of a strategy of savings and cost containment. The reorganisation of investments and expenses means other cuts are being considered, among them a possible redundancy of up to 7,500 employees.
With this withdrawal of so many vehicles and the adaptation to the new reality of the automotive industry, the future of the German manufacturer may become quite complicated and could bring significant changes to the company’s policy.
