Almost a couple of years ago, the BMW X7 joined the Bavarian brand’s lineup to step fully into the premium SUV segment as a rival to the Audi Q8, with elegant yet imposing lines, a high dose of exclusivity and technology also serving as the X7’s calling card. BMW is betting heavily on this model, but it also wants us to see its sportier traits, something it has achieved with the new limited-edition Dark Shadow Edition.

It is not a new name for this type of edition at BMW, as they have done it before, for example with the M2 Coupé and, unfortunately, it will not be as spectacular as the X6 with Vantablack paint, a paint that, as you may recall, is the deepest black shade in the world, making the human eye perceive the X6 as a two-dimensional object. Even so, the BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition shows a more laid-back, sporty and aggressive side of this premium SUV.

On the bodywork of the BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition, the metallic Frozen Arctic Grey paint has been used, taken from the BMW Individual catalogue and used for the first time on an “X” model from BMW, complemented by the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line with extended features, meaning that elements such as the side windows, the B and C pillar covers, the wing mirror housings, the kidney grille surround and grille bars, the roof rails, the air breathers and the exhaust tailpipe trims are finished in black chrome.

On top of all this, the BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition comes equipped with the M aerodynamic package, so you will also find the aerodynamic elements it includes, as well as 22-inch M alloy wheels with a five-spoke “V” design in Jet Black matte finish. To round off the exterior finish, all the rear glass is darkened, giving it an even more menacing look.

Inside the BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition, as you might imagine, the changes follow the same line as the exterior. The colours and materials chosen also come from the BMW Individual catalogue, such as the upholstery Merinofull in a specific two-tone NightBlue/Black variant featuring contrasting stitching, together with the roof lining in Night Blue with an Alcantara leather finish, and the nappa leather in Night Blue for the upper part of the instrument panel and the door armrests, finishing with black-finished Merino leather for the lower part of the instrument panel and the front seat backrests. The final details are handled by the Piano Black finish from BMW Individual for the central area of the console and the edition logo.

The BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition can be chosen in any of its base engine options, the xDrive 40i and xDrive 30d, as well as in the sportier M50i and M50d versions, but regardless of which one you choose, it will come with the characteristic sound provided by the M sport exhaust system. Only 500 units of the BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition will be built for the whole world, of which only 10 units will reach Spain.
