BMW Z4 Pure Impulse Edition: with a 6-speed manual gearbox!
The wait is finally over for all enthusiasts and lovers of driving, because BMW is launching a version of the Z4 with a three-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox

Years of relentless requests from BMW fans have finally been heard. Since the last generation of the BMW Z4 arrived in 2019, one thing was missing that many had been longing for: a manual gearbox option. BMW is once again surprising asphalt lovers with the launch of the Pure Impulse edition of the BMW Z4 M40i for 2024. This convertible has been designed for driving enthusiasts, featuring a manual gearbox and several significant changes that further heighten the excitement behind the wheel, such as its 340 CV.
Even with its update, the original configuration remained unchanged and hope seemed lost. However, the BMW Z4 Pure Impulse Edition has arrived with a transmission that is ideal for this roadster. While the rest of the range keeps the Steptronic Sport eight-speed automatic transmission, this special edition is the only one fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox.

This has been possible thanks to its kinship with the Toyota Supra, which has offered it for some time. As expected, this transmission is only available with the top-of-the-range M40i variant. That means it is linked to the 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder inline engine, which accounts for roughly half of sales.
Three-cylinder engine and 340 CV
The two-seat convertible retains the 340 CV and 500 Nm of torque of the most powerful version, although the manual gearbox slightly changes its performance. It is a little slower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, and its top speed remains limited to 250 km/h. Despite losing that tenth of a second in acceleration, it gains in faithful handling and strengthens the bond between driver and car. The gear lever boasts short, precise shifts to make the experience complete, something enthusiasts will also appreciate.

It also keeps the chassis that has always made the BMW Z4 stand out. With a near-perfect weight distribution and a low centre of gravity, it adds well-calibrated suspension thanks to adaptive technology with electronically controlled dampers. Details such as variable sport steering, M sport brakes and the M sport differential on the rear axle are also included. The wheels are staggered, meaning they measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.
M Shadowline finish
In addition, the design featuring double-spoke wheels with a glossy black finish is new. Other specific details of this manual Pure Impulse Edition include the M Shadowline finish, with black elements, red brake calipers and new body colours (such as the Frozen Deep Green seen in the images). The interior also features details such as the M gear lever, Vernasca leather upholstery in cognac with black M piping, and gloss black interior trim.
