Bombshell! Chris Evans leaves Top Gear

We warned you just a few days ago, when we told you that Matt LeBlanc, and part of the rest of the team, were not happy with the main presenter of the most famous programme in the motoring world, Top Gear. The show was not doing well and the audience, which is the main judge, reflected it, with very low figures compared with the era that Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond had closed a few months earlier.
Matt LeBlanc (Joey to those of us who followed the series Friends for many years) gave an ultimatum to the executives of the British broadcaster BBC in which he expressed his dissatisfaction with Chris Evans. It seems the decision has already been taken and Evans is definitively leaving the show, as he has announced through his profile on the social network Twitter.
“I resign from Top Gear. I gave it my best, but sometimes that’s not enough. The team is more than brilliant and I wish them the very best.”
We don’t know whether it was Evans who decided to leave the show or whether the BBC simply dismissed him from Top Gear. Perhaps an agreement between both parties. What is clear is that the situation must have been untenable for the team and it was something that sooner or later was going to end happening. It is not very normal for one of the leading figures to supposedly present an ultimatum at the BBC offices just a few months after the start of the new project, moreover backed by a good part of the team, to choose between them or the main presenter.
The programme is going through one of its worst periods since its beginnings. Everything worked fairly well until the day Jeremy Clarkson “caused trouble” by assaulting one of the assistants on the team. We also recall that the American edition abandoned the American project after several seasons on air, and that Clarkson, May and Hammond have embarked on a new adventure on Amazon with a programme called “The Grand Tour”.
