Electric cars continue to grow in the Spanish market during August

Sales of electrified cars, both plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, have grown over the past few months, and August was no exception.

It's not something that's generally noticeable, but electrified cars are gaining ground in the European market, and in Spain as well. Data from the last month shows that electric and plug-in hybrid cars not only have a place among Spanish buyers, but their popularity is also growing month by month.

In fact, of the total number of electrified vehicles sold during August 2026, 21.922 unitsAnd of these, 19.135 units were passenger cars. both plug-in hybrids and 100% electric.

Sales of electrified passenger cars have increased by 34%, reaching a total of 187.179 registered units this year. But the growth isn't limited to the combined sales of both categories; each category is experiencing growth month by month. Plug-in hybrid vehicles , which are generally more versatile and offer greater range, saw 9.631 units sold in August.

Plug-in hybrid passenger cars total 100.979 units , so the annual increase is 32,30% compared to the same period since 2025. These passenger cars offer several advantages over electric cars and buyers look for them when they are looking for a car with these characteristics.

Regarding electric cars , 9.562 units of various brands were sold during the month of August. In total, from January to August 31st, 86.200 electric cars have been sold. Compared to the same period in 2025, sales have increased by 36%.

All these figures demonstrate that plug-in vehicles are gradually gaining ground in the Spanish market, proving that the shift towards electric mobility is a reality and, although it is not progressing at the expected speed, it is already unstoppable.
