DGT 3.0, what is it and how does it work?
It is called DGT 3.0 and will allow drivers to be informed, in real time, of everything that happens on the roads.

As you probably already know, the Directorate-General for Traffic has become much more active in recent months and weeks, as it works on implementing the new DGT 3.0. This project aims to focus on connectivity between vehicles and other road users, and it is the culmination of a series of initiatives that began, for example, with the new V-16 and V-27 emergency lights.

The officials of the Directorate-General for Traffic on social media have assured that the DGT 3.0 project is a platform that will allow road users to connect, always providing real-time traffic information. The agency has been working on this revolutionary project for quite some time and expects the platform to be fully operational by 2025. It will work on smartphones, and until then, the DGT is taking small steps toward its final goal. The new developments have come with the new emergency beacon that will replace warning triangles.

DGT 3.0, a reality in 2025
Another upcoming development will arrive on July 1, when the Roadside Assistance Regulation will change and establish that tow truck operators must report the location of the broken-down vehicle electronically. In a later revision, any road infrastructure operator will have to inform the Directorate-General for Traffic’s cloud about planned works, kilometer markers, etc., so that drivers can be informed in real time.
The DGT has explained that “DGT 3.0 is a platform that keeps different road users connected in real time, providing them at all times with real-time traffic information and thus enabling safer and more intelligent mobility.” As the program is rolled out, DGT 3.0 will allow the following:
- Knowing the environmental protocols and low emission zones.
- Cross-referencing the environmental label data with low emission zone data and warning the driver that their vehicle cannot circulate, with enough time to find an alternative.
- Sporting event schedules with geolocation devices in incident vehicles.
- Identifying cyclists on the road, since each bicycle will have an integrated geolocation device.

The project’s officials have added that “DGT 3.0 enables interconnection between all the actors that make up this ecosystem: vehicle manufacturers, rental companies, public transport platforms, city councils, insurers, connectivity device manufacturers, providers of applications related to safe and efficient mobility, and the various road users.” “Interconnectivity is the key.”
What is #DGT 3.0?
A platform that allows road users to connect with each other, providing real-time traffic information for safer and more intelligent mobility.
Through mobile phones, in 2025.
