Does an American V8 or a European V8 sound better? This video will help you settle the debate.

Both America and Europe produce spectacular vehicles with a very special sound. This video shows us some V8s and their differences and similarities.

There are many types of vehicles in the world of motoring, and many characteristics that make them special, but some stand out more than others. Yet if there is one thing every true petrolhead is passionate about, without a doubt, it is that harmonious melody that engines give off. Today, though, we are going to focus on just one type of engine: those with eight cylinders in a “V”.

It is true that many companies now offer an aftermarket exhaust system aftermarket, to make our vehicle sound better or louder, but today we will talk strictly about factory sounds and make a comparison between two great automotive powers, Europe and America. Both continents have a range of vehicles worthy of admiration with a V8 engine.

Starting with the visiting side, we find the muscle cars, a type of vehicle with a front-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive and a powerful large-displacement V8 under the hood. Without doubt, it is a kind of car that wins hearts in Europe, due to its scarcity on our continent and its sports-car philosophy. Its quintessential representative is the Ford Mustang.

Above all, we must also give special mention to the most extreme version, the Mustang Shelby GT350, which offers a naturally aspirated V8 producing 533 CV and a very distinctive sound. It has a rough, deep burble at idle, which announces a great roar at high revs, although Ford has given it a somewhat more metallic sound. We see this reflected in other American vehicles too, such as the Chevrolet Corvette.

This model has a concept somewhat different from that of traditional muscle cars. It adopts the stance of a pure, hard-edged sports car and aims to tickle the most radical Europeans. Inside we find a 466 CV V8 in the Stingray version, more than enough to enjoy behind the wheel. The four exhaust outlets produce a sound worthy of a storm, which commands admiration wherever it goes.

On the other hand, on the local side we find naturally aspirated and turbocharged V8 engines that do their job very well. We must highlight one of the best-sounding vehicles today, the Jaguar F-Type R. Its V8 engine produces a heavenly sound, which announces your arrival from kilometres away. We also have the uniquely special song of Italian supercars.

We are referring to Ferrari and its 458 Speciale, which has one of the best V8s of all time. The sound this cavallino rampante gives off enchants everyone who experiences its acceleration. Today we have the 488 GTB which, although it gives up the naturally aspirated engine, still retains a very distinctive sound. At Highmotor, we consider that the vehicles of both continents have their own sound that wins hearts equally, but we cannot bring ourselves to choose just one which one do you prefer?.
