Ducati has kicked off the renewal of its range, and now it is the turn of the Multistrada V2, a model that may sound new but is not, as it is what we previously knew as the Multistrada 950 under a new name, while also introducing updates to graphics and improvements in areas that make it even more attractive.

The Ducati Multistrada V2 is the entry-level version of the Borgo Panigale brand’s road-going trail bikes, a model that will be offered, as with other models from the brand, in a basic finish and in the S finish, with improved standard equipment. In addition, as a major novelty following this renewal, the Multistrada V2 can now be restricted for use by holders of the A2 licence.

In this way, future owners of the new Ducati Multistrada V2 will find an engine already known from other models in the brand: the 90º V2 Testastretta of 937 CC, which produces a power output of 113 CV along with a torque of 98 Nm. Those who need it can, however, use the A2 licence restriction kit, which reduces power down to 48 CV. This engine also stands out for its low maintenance costs, with oil changes set at 15,000 km and valve clearance checks every 30,000 km.

One of the main features of the new Ducati Multistrada V2 is that it is now lighter, achieving a reduction of 5 kg compared with the current model. This has been achieved thanks to new components introduced in the engine, which already save 2 kg, but also thanks to the installation of new brackets for the front brake discs, as well as new mirrors and wheels, the latter also available with spoked rims as an option, both of which derive from the Multistrada V4. As a result, the new Multistrada V2 weighs 199 kg dry, while the S version weighs 202 kg.

Its chassis remains unchanged, so we will continue to find the characteristic tubular steel trellis frame, 19-inch and 17-inch wheels for the front and rear axles respectively, two 320 mm front brake discs with Brembo-signed calipers, as well as the 48 mm KYB inverted fork and Sachs rear monoshock. Those who opt for the S version will have the Ducati Skyhook Suspension EVO, Sachs semi-active suspension that delivers greater stability and comfort.

Once in the saddle, the rider will feel more comfortable on the new Multistrada V2 thanks to its improved ergonomics, due to the new seat design, now narrower to allow greater freedom of movement, and a seat height that has been reduced to 830 mm. Those who wish can also opt for an even lower seat that sets the height at 790 mm. This is not the only improvement in the riding position, as new footpegs inherited from the V4 have also been fitted, which increase the distance of the feet from the ground by 10 mm.

As is to be expected with Ducati, the new Multistrada V2 also boasts an extensive electronic safety package, including elements such as four available riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro), ABS Cornering, Vehicle Hold Control, Ducati Traction Control, self-cancelling indicators and, as the main novelty, the Ducati Brake Light, whereby the rear brake light starts flashing when sudden braking is detected.

The instrumentation is displayed on an LCD screen on the basic version, while the S version features a 5-inch TFT screen with hands-free connectivity, which can be operated safely via the backlit buttons. This is not the only component that makes the S version more appealing, as those who choose it will also get cruise control, full-LED headlights with the Ducati Cornering Lights function, and the Ducati Quick Shift Up & Down gearshift, which allows gear changes without the clutch, both up and down.

Finally, it should be noted that the Ducati Multistrada V2 will be available with two factory-fitted equipment levels: the first, called Essential, is available for both the basic and S versions, while the Travel equipment level is only available for the S version and includes heated grips, side cases and a centre stand. In addition, it will be available in the classic Ducati Red colour with black wheels for both versions and, for the S version only, the new Street Gray livery with a black frame and red wheels.

If you are thinking of getting the new Ducati Multistrada V2, you will not have to wait long, as the brand has confirmed that it will reach dealerships next November.
