First leaked images of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS

American muscle cars are being renewed, and the sixth-generation Ford Mustang, presented just over a year ago, has been joined by the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, which was unveiled last May. The many new features of this new generation of Chevrolet’s pony car will be joined by the always exciting, more powerful versions, such as the well-known Z/28, ZL1 and SS. This last one seems to be fully finished and has started appearing on the streets of Detroit as if it were just another vehicle.
The first sighting dates back to May 30, 2015, when a yellow Chevrolet Camaro SS was spotted around the 11th annual Michigan F-Body Meet & Greet event. This unit, unmistakable because of its eye-catching exterior colour, features more angular and sporty bumpers, air vents on the bonnet, twin exhaust outlets in a large-sized diffuser, a spoiler on the boot lid, and five-spoke 20-inch wheels in gloss black. So that no one mistakes the version, the SS badges are located on the lower front grille, the front wings and the boot.

The second sighting corresponds to this unit in Red Rock metallic, which was displayed at the Superfast meeting. There are no differences compared with the yellow model, apart from the metallic exterior colour, the aluminium wheels and the sliding sunroof, which seems to be a genuine novelty on the sixth-generation Camaro SS. As for the interior, few details have leaked, but it is expected to have a higher level of equipment and the characteristic SS logos scattered throughout the cabin, including the ones printed on the front seats.
As for the powertrain, the famous naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 from the golden-cross brand has been confirmed, which produces 455 CV and 617 Nm of torque sent to the road through a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 8-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters for sequential shifting. The Magnetic Ride Control suspension will debut on the Camaro SS in this generation, as the previous one only offered it on the most powerful version, the ZL1.
For its part, the first units of the Chevrolet Camaro are expected to reach the roads of the United States in the last quarter of 2015, while European countries will have to wait until spring 2016. During that same period, the 2016 Camaro Convertible will be introduced, which has already been unveiled. Don’t miss the video below to hear the sound of its powerful engine.
