Ford Focus Sportbreak Active, the crossover estate version of Ford that we will only see in Europe

The new version of the Ford Focus Sportbreak, the estate of the range, takes on an appearance closer to an SUV to show off its capabilities outside the city

The Ford Focus Sportbreak Active is the estate version of the model and, after seeing several versions of the model aimed at next year, it’s time to look in detail at this variant that brings the Focus range closer to an SUV look, but with estate bodywork. The differences between this estate and the “traditional” variant can be seen mainly in ground clearance, which in the Active version is 30 millimetres higher at the front and slightly more at the rear, 34 millimetres.

It also features plastic cladding on the lower part of the bodywork, along with redesigned bumpers specific to the model. On the upper part it has black roof bars as well. The fog lights and LED daytime running lights have also been incorporated into the exterior, giving it a more dynamic and attractive look. As for the wheels, the model goes on sale with 17-inch wheels, although 18-inch ones can be chosen as an option, giving it a more sporty appearance suited to journeys outside the city.

Looking at the interior, the Ford Focus Sportbreak Active also differs from the rest of the range’s variants. The upholstery is exclusive, with the letter “A” appearing in several places to highlight its membership of the Active series. The metal pedals, the leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever are also part of the car’s equipment, which also has sill plates on the door frames and, if the buyer wants to accentuate the version, optional floor mats are available.

The on-board technology is headed by the SYNC3 information and entertainment system, controlled via an 8-inch screen with navigation and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other technology featured on the model includes central locking with remote control, keyless entry and start, rain sensor and automatic light activation, together with safety systems such as a speed limiter and cruise control.

The engines powering this version do not differ from those in the rest of the Ford Focus Sportbreak versions, with two petrol options, a 1.0-litre Ecoboost unit with 125 CV and another 1.5-litre Ecoboost with 150 CV, and two diesels. These are a 1.5-litre EcoBlue with 120 CV and a second 2.0-litre EcoBlue with 150 CV. Both options will have front-wheel drive and, depending on the engine, you can choose a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic. The new Active estate version can already be ordered in all European markets and for the moment will not be available in other markets such as the American one.
