GAC Aion V: the revolutionary SUV that will use a graphene battery
The Chinese brand is working on developing graphene batteries, which will be much more efficient and will power the GAC Aion V, an electric SUV.

One of the major problems with electric cars is the battery. Although batteries are becoming more efficient and powerful all the time, there is still a long way to go in this respect before electric vehicles are truly efficient and receive the attention they deserve. But it seems that a breakthrough in batteries is about to arrive thanks to graphene.
Graphene batteries promise a considerable advance in the technology used to power electric motors. Graphene is a material made of carbon in which the atoms form a honeycomb-shaped pattern. This material has properties that make it strong, flexible, lightweight and conductive, so it can be used to manufacture batteries. And that is precisely what is being done.

Batteries made with graphene will have a higher energy density and a greater charging capacity. A car fitted with graphene batteries will be able to reach 80% charge capacity in just 8 minutes, thanks to a 480 W charger. This would definitively put an end to the 30-minute periods currently needed to reach the same charge. One problem less for the integration of electric mobility into everyday life.
But is there any car that could be fitted with a graphene battery? For the moment, no, but the Chinese brand GAC is preparing an SUV that will be equipped with this type of battery. The technology is almost ready and apparently is undergoing the final steps of the development process, and could be installed in the new SUV the brand is preparing, the GAC Aion V.
No details about this SUV are known, beyond the fact that it will feature this type of battery and that it will be able to offer a range of 1,000 kilometres. The other great advantage is that, as we mentioned above, it can be charged to 80% of capacity in just 8 minutes thanks to a fast charger.
The car, if all goes well, will begin production in September. If the results of this type of battery are as expected, we will soon see these batteries installed in electric cars to improve their performance. We look forward to seeing what happens with this model, because another thing that is expected is that the price of batteries will fall considerably and with it, that of electric cars.
