Geely Geometry EX3, the new compact electric SUV for the Chinese market

The Chinese market continues to surprise us with electric models aimed at its own market, although they may reach other countries, like this new electric SUV.

The Chinese market is one of the most powerful in the world, if not the most, and for that reason Chinese brands work to always offer the most attractive solutions for buyers. We know there are many electric models that, in principle, will not reach our market. One of those models is the Geely Geometry EX3, a new compact SUV that Geely’s subsidiary has launched on the market.

It is a small electric SUV offering a price as modest as its size. In the Chinese market it has a price of 59,700 yuan, which is roughly 8,000 euros. This makes it one of the most affordable five-seat vehicles in China. It has a very recognisable look within the SUV range, with fairly standard headlights, a bumper with a more robust appearance and a two-tone body, with green decorative elements.

The Geometry EX3 has a length of 4,005 mm, a width of 1,760 mm and a height of 1,575 mm, figures that reflect its size, designed for the city. Despite this size, the SUV comfortably accommodates five passengers. It also offers a not inconsiderable 26 storage spaces and a boot with a capacity of 500 litres, which rises to 1,050 litres if the second row of seats is folded down.

Inside, we find a dashboard that is more than adequate for this price level. It includes a 12.25-inch digital instrument panel and another for the 8-inch infotainment system. This controls the QQ and Autonavi music systems, Ximalaya radio, voice control, Wi-Fi and other applications.

Motor and battery

As regards the electric motor, it is a unit that delivers 75 kW, equivalent to 95 CV, and a maximum torque of 180 Nm. This performance is very similar to that offered by comparable models with petrol engines. The battery, which is water-cooled, has a capacity of 37.23 kWh, allowing a range of 322 kilometres. That said, this figure is registered under the NEDC cycle, which is less demanding than the European one.

It does not have very sophisticated ADAS systems, but it does feature several passive safety systems. It will include dual airbags, reversing sensors and camera, tyre pressure monitoring, ABS and EBD. Although, in principle, it will only be available in China, Geely’s presence in other markets is expected to allow it to reach other countries in the near future.
