Genesis is fully detaching itself from Hyundai with the debut of an exclusive platform

Genesis was born as a high-end model within Hyundai’s range. Later, it broke away from Hyundai and became a brand dedicated to this kind of model, offering more and better equipment than the parent brand’s cars. Little by little, it has been separating itself from the main brand, creating a considerable difference so that buyers clearly understand it is a different brand.

Genesis has opted to develop its own platform, so it no longer has to use the ones used by Hyundai. It is a platform that will arrive in a few years and will be prepared to offer premium features to the models that will use it. It will provide solutions for models with hybrid engines as well as for those using only electric motors.

The idea is for this new platform to adapt to the conditions a premium car needs, with a sporty architecture, relatively direct steering and a firm yet comfortable ride. These are the qualities that must be present in a car with a sporty spirit that breaks away from the traditional offering of an everyday car.

The models that will be built on this new platform have not been revealed yet. However, work is underway on several models that can fit what is intended with this new platform. One of those models could be an evolution of the concept car Magma GT, a sports car that will offer plenty of sporty sensations to the driver.

The brand wants to keep growing, with a set target of 350,000 units sold per year by 2030. To do so, it will need to offer an extensive catalogue of hybrid and electric cars and take advantage of the trend towards extended-range systems.

But Genesis’s growth will be moderate and very carefully studied. It will not rush into occupying every market niche; instead, it will proceed in a contained way, offering several models of different types, without trying to cover all segments.
