Great Wall Motor announces the upcoming launch of the compact SUV Ora 05 in China
Great Wall Motor’s first electric SUV under the Ora brand retains some elements of the design language of the brand’s other models, while at the same time seeking to stand out with a style of its own.
Great Wall Motor, through its subsidiary Ora, has just unveiled its first compact SUV: the Ora 05. Until now, the brand had focused on small city cars and saloons with a retro aesthetic, such as the Ora 03 and Ora 07 models, but with the Ora 05 it has taken a different path. While it is true that this new model keeps that very distinctive personality, featuring large headlights and a rear light signature that runs from side to side of the vehicle, it also reveals certain similarities with the SUVs of a well-known German manufacturer based in Stuttgart, as can be seen in the images.
With a length of 4.47 metres, a width of 1.83 m, a height of 1.64 m and a wheelbase of 2.72 metres, the Ora 05 enters the Chinese market in the competitive compact SUV segment. Ora’s strategy to carve out a place in this hotly contested market is clear: to offer a higher level of equipment than its rivals and more range at a moderate price.

The Chinese manufacturer is already accepting reservations for its new compact SUV in its home market, with prices starting at 108,800 yuan -around 13,300 euros at current exchange rates- for the most affordable version, rising to 142,800 yuan -around 17,300 euros- for the top-of-the-range version. In total, Ora offers five trim levels for this new model.
Other details worth noting about this compact SUV
As for its technical specifications, the Ora 05 features a single electric motor with 150 kW of power on the front axle, enabling it to reach a top speed of 170 km/h. It is also paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack available in two capacities: 45.3 and 58.3 kWh. With the latter, the Chinese manufacturer promises up to 580 km of CLTC range, while the former is capable of covering 100 km less, also under the CLTC homologation cycle.
Inside, the Ora 05 follows the current trend of the Chinese market, embracing minimalism by concentrating the management of the vehicle’s various systems on two screens: a 10.25-inch display for the instrument cluster and a central one reaching 15.6 inches with 2.5K resolution, running a proprietary operating system called Coffee OS. This system stands out for integrating the advanced Deep Seek language model, which allows natural voice interaction without the need for keywords.

For the time being, the Ora 05 is only sold in China, and the manufacturer has not confirmed any possible launch in other markets such as Europe. However, given Great Wall Motor’s current strategy of expanding its operations into the old continent, it would not be surprising for it to launch in Europe too in the more or less near future.
