Honda Civic Diesel I-DTEC features a 9-speed transmission

The Honda Civic Diesel I-DTEC adds a new and efficient 9-speed transmission to save even more fuel.

The Honda Civic I-DTEC is already a highly efficient car. It features a 1.6-litre engine and a new 9-speed transmission across the entire range. These wide gear options allow it to deliver an impressive range of 4.1 L/100 km. This is the first time the Japanese manufacturer has combined a diesel engine with an automatic gearbox in one of its Civic models.

The efficiency of this gearbox is absolutely spectacular: the short first-gear ratio delivers a smooth yet powerful start. Higher gears keep engine speed low at cruising speed, which reduces both fuel consumption and the noise it generates.

Compared with other models in its class, the Civic stands out for its balance between power and consumption, thanks to its 1.6-litre engine. This engine produces a total of 120 CV at 4,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 300 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The Civic accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h.

Not only does it stand out for its efficiency, the Honda Civic I-DTEC records CO2 emissions of just 108 g/km in its saloon version, and 109 g/km in its 5-door version.

Its engine features forged steel pistons to reduce heat loss, and thanks to a machining technique called “super plateau honing”, which reduces friction between pistons and cylinders, it allows smooth piston movement and improves long-term wear characteristics of the engine.

The new turbocharger features a highly efficient variable-geometry design whose rotational speed is precisely controlled by the car’s electronics, minimising turbo lag and offering an optimal combination of low- to mid-range thrust and high-speed performance.
