Hyundai gives us a preview of what the future IONIQ 3 could look like with the "Concept Three" prototype
With the production version of the Concept Three, Hyundai aims to answer all those looking for a compact electric model to get around mainly in the city, while also having the possibility of making longer journeys.
Hyundai has presented at the IAA Mobility show being held this week in Munich the Concept Three, a prototype with which the South Korean manufacturer gives us a preview of the design lines of the future IONIQ 3, which is expected to reach the market in the coming years. With this model, Hyundai plans to fill a gap that currently exists in its range of electric vehicles, since it does not yet have any electric model in this segment.
Contrary to what some might imagine, with this prototype the South Korean manufacturer has not opted to develop another SUV, so popular today. Instead, it has presented us with a compact model in the style of the five-door version of the KIA EV4 that we already know.

With dimensions of 4.29 metres in length, 1.94 metres in width, 1.43 metres in height and a wheelbase of 2.72 metres, the Concept Three sits in the same market segment as, for example, the Volkswagen ID.3, the Cupra Born or the MG4. Although it has not yet been officially confirmed, it is expected to share its platform with the KIA EV4, and will be offered with a choice of two battery packs with capacities of 60.3 and 81.4 kWh. This model will also be equipped with a single electric motor producing 160 kW on the front axle.
Futuristic appearance and differentiation
The exterior styling of the Concept Three stands out for following the design language “Art of Steel“, as well as for featuring the distinctive pixelated lighting of the IONIQ models, which Hyundai considers much more expressive. The designers at Hyundai have also taken the liberty of introducing the symbolic figure of Mr. Pix, in order to awaken curiosity and an emotional connection with users. This approach reflects Hyundai’s effort to combine technological innovation with attractive and emotional design.
The South Korean manufacturer plans to have an electric model for every segment in its line-up from 2027 onwards, and the IONIQ 3 will be the electric equivalent of the popular i30 with a combustion engine. Production of the final model could take place in Europe, at the company’s plant in the Czech town of Nosovice, where the i30 and the Kona Electric are already manufactured.

“The Concept Three represents the next step in our commitment to electrification. With its compact dimensions and distinctive design, this prototype embodies our vision of practical, accessible and emotional mobility for our European customers.”
